Hey SuperBee,I was reading an old post of yours from 01-17-02 about lowering a 4x4.. Is this possible for my Gen III 1999??
You mention that the front can be lowered about 2 inches by lowering the T-bars but it will wear out the CV boots..but will it effect ride or handling at all?? You also say it is within limits, does that mean it is safe for the suspension? How much faster will it wear it out? Is this a safe mod, or isn't it wise??
The back I can get down, it's the front I am having probs with. I appreciate all your help and your time, thanks in advance for any advise about how to do this safely.

Ben

Ben,

I am not positive about the suspension on the Gen3's as I haven't done any suspension work on them. But if it is at all similar you should be able to do that. The reason that I say the CV boots will wear faster is because they are on more of an angle than they would be at the stock height. Being at an angle just tends to wear them out faster, more stress on the rubber. But don't get me wrong, they won't wear out in a week or so, I've had mine lowered for 2 years and have never had to replace the boots.

As far as "within limits" I actually did some research on this one. You have to make sure that the position that the CV shafts are in is well within the natural suspension travel. They can function easily without incident up to 38 degrees of angle (i believe, someone correct me if i'm wrong). You will be well within these limits if you drop it less than 3". That is the reason that I went and raised the differential. This was so that I could drop the truck 4" in the front and keep my driveline angles within the acceptable limits.ANd like I said, I've been running this for going on 2 years now without incident. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks SuperBeeDak-
I think I will make it a Spring project this year. I live in Mn and it is warm right now, but not warm enough for a project..
I hope you don't mind if I call on you later for more advice, when the ball gets rolling?!
Once again thanks,

Later
