Message: I got a '02 and all I did was loosen up the bumper, one side at a time and install the brackets on either side. I even put an extra 1/2" bolt in the third hole in the frame bracket. I didn't have to drop the valance, piece of cake.

Message: Go to a garage,,,,got mine rehung this Saturday. Stopped me cold going about 10-15MPH. No damage to gaurd,,and only slightly bent the brackets. Cost $30 to have them install it. And to really get'm in there good,, (usually you'll have to do this becuase the bolts are always tight as Heck),,you'll have to drop the front bumper.
But overall the this gaurd rocks!

Message: Out of curiousity,,,has anyone attempted placing a piece of expanded metal in the middle of the gaurd,, Kind of like a skid plate? And mounting the lisence to the expanded metal. Think that would look good?
I know they sell these guards w/the skid plates as optional,,but they want too much,, and was thinking of making my own. Sound good?

Message: Yup.
Don't like license plate blocking the airflow to the radiator area.
Thanks for the idea:-)

Message: BlackDak02- you being serious?, or sacastic? Not dogg'n you either way. Just wanted to get some feedback. I was going to get a little creative this weekend,,cut the expanded metal and weld to the guard. I know a shop that can powder coat it pretty cheap,, I think it would look pretty sharp,,especially after being powder coated.

Message: No, I thought it was a good idea, ZenDak (Andy), hope you don't mind me copying off you. With the powdercoating it's a very good idea, IMO.
Maybe the '02's are different on the bumper mounting but I didn't have to drop the bumper or valence to install the bar. It went on real easy for me, no problem.
BTW, what do you mean by 'expanded metal'? Plate steel? Flatstock?

Message: the bar for the most part bolts to the frame, i would think that for the most part it would work with a body lift - but would like to hear some empiracal experience

Message: Went ahead and installed Westin safari bar this afternoon. The post above was helpful (although probably meant 18mm wrench/socket and not 8mm).
Did run into a problem where I could not get all the bolts from the bumper to line up with the inner bumper bracket. The addition of the mount bracket shortened the distance between bumper brackets. I was able to get two of the four bolts in securely and the bumper seems solid.
Anyone have a similar problem? Since the weight of the bumper is resting on top of the bumper bracket, I'm hoping this may be OK. Any thoughts?
