Subject: Deck out or Ditch?
IP: Logged

Message:
I was planning on fixing up my '98 Dakota Club Cab Long Bed, but I recently put it into a ditch at 35 mph. It bent the lower control arm, tie rod, rim, frame, and it broke some brackets. I am also leaking coolant because of the accident. I am about to go to Japan for 3 years with the US Navy. I plan on saving $1,000/month. I don't know if I should just buy a new truck or if I should fix my current truck and make it a project truck. Currently I have red undercarriage lights, red strobes for the headlights, a system, 3" lowering blocks, a K&N Air Filter, and I am getting a roll pan. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx, Blind Maggot

You would not happen to be in the Oak Harbor area would you? That is where I am. You might want to check to see if you can even take a broke truck to Japan. I lived there for three years. To bring in a car or truck it has to be working. (not saying yours doesn't) But with no probs. Plus their requirnment are differant then ours so you might want to find out what you car do. If you do take your truck there. there is so much you can do with it there. Not telling you to take it or sell it. Just telling you there is alot you need to do to take it. And to bring it back all the things you did to it there might not be legal and have to be removed when you come back.

It is a great place to go you will have fun there. Kind of wish I was there now.

Thanks, Brian

I can't bring my truck to Japan. I wish I could. I just got the new tie rod and the lower control arm was bent back into place a little bit. It doesn't pull anymore. I still have to get the frame bent back into place. The truck is going to sit for 3 years while I am gone.

How is it possible that you have a club cab as well as a long box???????????????? It was not available.

It apparently is available. I have one. My bed is longer than most beds. I don't know ow much longer. I just know that it is longer than a standard cab bed. Maybe it is normal for the club cab bed. I don't know.

In 98 the only available body configurations were:
regular cab - 6.5 foot box
regular cab - 8 foot box
club cab - 6.5 foot box

the reg cab/8' box uses the same wheel base as club cab with 6.5' box.

If they did offer the club cab with 8 foot box I would have gotten one, when the quad cabs came out I was gonna trade mine for one of those and slap on an 8 foot box and slamm it to the ground, now that would look damn ass sweet.

Do you have any pics of your truck???? If so post them.

I just got some pics of my truck. I am going to put them online as soon as I can. I haven't measured it. It might be only 6.5'. I looked at it today and just started wondering about it. It just looks longer than most beds. I guess your right dude. I'll have to check it out. Most people agree it is a little longr but I guess they are just as blind as me.
