Message: Does anyone else hate their grey front
bumper? I have a 2001 QC and I want to get
rid of my grey plastic bumper for a black one
that matches my truck. I asked the dealership
where I bought my truck and they quoted me
$375. Is that about right, or am I better off
attempting to paint it?

Message: I didnt like it either so my plan was to get rid of both the bumper and the grey lower fascia and replace it with the bumper bar and smooth painted fascia that comes on an RT, It took about 2 monthes and 3 dealers for them to finally see that it was possible( gotta wonder sometimes about them guys), end result i got it done and they only charged me $400.00 for labor and parts.
They even took the side brackets off a lot new car becouse they couldnt order them new, which makes no sense to me cuz if an RT gets in a wreck how do they replace them?

Message: There are some alternatives. The gray lower valence can be smoothed and painted. The parts are starting to show up in junkyards. And they are going for $70 regulalry on eBay.
There are some nice aftermarket alternatives out there too.

Message: The sport fascia is different, the top portion is textured black to look like a bumper.Don't like that look either. the RT is a 1 piece smooth painted. And in hindsight there are a lot of things I could have done differently. I originally had no plans to do any modifications to my truck but after seeing some already modified i started slowly and now i can't stop!

Message: the top portion is textured black, because paint
would get chipped by rocks etc. Are you sure
the R/T doesnt have the textured black on
top???? If it doesnt, I will get mine painted
black to match the rest of the truck.

Message: After a lot of research this is what i know.
Before 2001 the RT's had a painted bumber and painted lower. but in 2001+ they have a 1 piece painted ( that is what I was able to buy at the dealer's after it took me draging them onto the lot to show them a 2001 RT ). Before i bought the 1 piece ( comes already in factory color), A friend who is the painter at a dealership gave me his 1 piece sport fascia and we sanded the textured part and he painted it for me but i didnt like the way it turned out. you can see what the 1 piece smooth painted looks like here,

Message: hey von dutch:
Did your sir michaels roll pan take weight off
the rear of your dak? I like the clean look of sir
michaels, but I am afraid that with the 3/6 drop
I have done to level out the truck, taking off the
rear bumper and adding a roll pan would
raise the rear of the truck.
p.s. your truck is lookin good!

Message: JMO,
I had the same problem (solid black truck with those disgusting lower gray bumpers). I went to a couple local auto shops around town and the cheapest one charged me about $350, but they did the front and rear. Even though it cost this much I'm glad I did it, it really looks a lot better.

Message: I know the roll pan is a lot lighter just from carrying both upstairs. I couldnt tell you if it raised the rear end much, I did the lowering at the same time.

Message: I've got a 01 QC sport, I was told by my local paint shop that paint wouldn't stick very well to the grey bumper, has anyone tried painting the grey strip on the sport model to match the rest of they're truck, what were the results?
BTW, sweet ride Von!

Message: Well, there are the methods of painting the grey fascia, which can chip easier, replace toe front with a front bumber cover(which they make now),m or go for a steel fascia (chrome or sanded to be painted, to match the body to not chip very easily). i have instal;led the chrome style with fog lamp inserts, total cost was about 300 where as in I installed it. looks cool and does alot better at bug problems.... adding the clear corners with it make the front look alot better....
