Subject: Clear Corners or Smoked Covers? IP: Logged
Message: Hi Guys
Can't make up my mind whether I like clear corners for my black dak or not. Also, I've seen several daks with those smoked headlight covers. What do you think?

Message: How 'bout both?
Some of the smoked covers are "snap-on" with no Velcro strips needed to secure 'em, but I can't find any (yes... I looked on eBay). If I find some, I wanna:
Have the covers painted Patriot Blue to match, and convert my never-used fog lights to parking/signal lights. During the day - covers on - would look great, and still be totally legal.
Clear corners look good no matter what else you do. Can't go wrong!

Message: Sounds like a good idea there Bro.
I'd like to go with the clear corners also. Does anyone know the brand name of the lights that you don't need to splice wires for an easy and clean install? I got an 02 and don't really want to hack into the stock wiring if necessary. Thanks.

Message: clear corners are played out...save your
money. If you really want to go custom, shave
your tailights and get some new ones
frenched in a rollpan. It looks way cleaner,
and gives your dak an original look.

I was skeptical about clear corners at first, but I decided to go for it. It did take me a brief time to get use to the look, but I have since come to "appreciate" the clears and am glad I installed them.
As for brands, I only know of APC and ProCarParts. APC supposedly changed their design so they are direct bolt-on, but I don't know for sure. And last I heard, ProCarParts had to have a couple wires spliced.
A couple problems that I have heard about smoked covers (and these may not apply to your area) are:
- If you try running them at night (depending on how smoked they are) police might cite you for it.
- I have heard many stories about the smoked covers walking off by themselves. If you don't want the covers taken, then you need to basically permanently install them, or take them off when you park somewhere public.
Again, these may not apply to your area. Personally I really like the idea of getting the covers and painting them to match my Dak. I've even seen a set with the ram's head cut out. Looked very cool ;-)

Message: Thanks for the input guys. There is a moparfest going on this summer (Ontario) with lots of vendors, I will wait til then and check out the prices. I too have seen them both on ebay, I want to be able to look at them closely.
Daniel, the headers were great. I noticed far more gains with the TB though. It's hard to say, because I think it is a combination of everything that has really improved the performance... the headers did make for a nice rich sound and smoother transitions though.

Message: Also this Lesley. I am in the same boat. Not sure which option to go for. It is either darken up the front with Covers OR eye catcher with the clear. I want to keep my Dak looking dak and clean but the clear corners look soooooo good.
