I just got a vinyl decal for the top of my windshield. It is in the exact same font used to write dakota on the side of the truck. I got it through www.dansdecals.com. He can make it a custom size for ya with lots of color choices. Reasonable prices. You can see pics of what mine looks like by going to the links at the bottom of the page. Just givin ya some other options.

i paid around $650 for the tonneau cover. You can go to www.4are.com and print a $20 off coupon for your purchase. I love the cover so far. THe only thing I have to go and buy is a tailgate protector to put on the top of the tailgate because the fiberglass is starting to scratch the paint there, but no big deal. I highly recommend the cover!

You can go to pretty much any vinyl sign shop and they can make you a windsheild banner. They usually have a program to do it and the price should be around $20 depending on color and type of vinyl you choose.

I don't think you would have trouble putting it on yourself. I put mine on with a couple of buddies. The biggest thing I can tell you is GO SLOW!!! I can't stress that enough. However, no matter how hard you try, you will get some small air bubbles in the vinyl. The easiest way to take care of them is to slightly prick them with a pin and then squeeze the air out, the hole is so small you will never see it. You can see a pic of my banner on my website (if AOL has it back working yet!)

OK, I ordered a "Flame Red" Dakota decal from Dan (www.dansdecals.com) and it didnt match- it was too orange. So, my question is, does anyone have a decal that matches the flame red paint? if so whered you get it?

Theres a sign shop in my town that I get all my decals from for my Dakota. I have a 2001 Motorsports Edition Dakota, only made in black, and flame red. I got a red that matches very well, its very cool, and looks great at night. If you are still interested, let me know, I can get a little sample peice of and send it to you, and if you like it, order the full size thing for ya. Lemme know..

I know this is an old post but when you ordered your windsheild decal from dansdecals.com did it measure 3 1/2 in by 38 inches? In your picture the height seems to be taller than 3 1/2.

My decal is actually 4 1/2 inches tall. It is also wider than 38". I am not sure of the exact measure (I would go and measure but I am at college and my truck is parked a good 10 min. walk from here and it is too early for that kind of walk!) but all I did was take a tape measure and measure the width of the windshield and sent that measurement to Dan. He will make one to whatever measurements you give him, you don't have to go by the stock measurements he has on the site. Good luck, I love mine!
P.S. Don't worry about the height of the decals getting hit by the windshield wipers. You hear a slight "swish" when the wipers go over the deals, but I have had mine for 6 months and you can't see any marks from the wipers on the decals.

I measured my windshield and at the top it is 49" and 4 1/2 inches down it was near 52". Should I just order it 52" in length and trim it to fit? What did you do to overcome that?

I am pretty sure that I ordered the 49 inches. You really don't want to do any trimming. To get it to lie flat on the windshield the decal will arc up in the middle and down at the sides. It really isn't noticeable. I thought about trimming it in the middle to get it to follow the top of the windshield, but there is no way to get it to affix to the windshield properly if you are constantly pulling it up trying to get it in the perfect position. If you take your time and lay it out on the winshield before you peel the backing off you should be fine.

If I can make a suggestion, clean your windshield with Alcohol first, not windex, so remove any oils and such, and then get a spray bottle with water in it, and mist the adhesive side of the decal, this will allow you to be able to move it around, not alot, but some while adhearing it to the windshield. Beleive me, it helps! Then just take yout squeegee or whatever tool you are using to get the air bubbles out/smooth it out, and the water will get pushed aside, and dry up. But, this helps when you are applying it, so it doesnt instantly stick to the windshield, if gives you some time to play around with it.

I forgot to mention that. I too used alcohol on the windshield. I never thought of putting the decal on when it was still wet, might have helped!

Soapy water works better. And your drivers lisence as a squegee. Gerber Industry acually puts out an application solution that they charge out the a$$ for, all thats in the neat little white bottle is soapy water. I'm talking just a little bit of ....like...... Dawn... 2 drops a large size sqirt bottle ...maybe.
If your wondering will it still stick after the soapy "residue", I use to do it all the time on F-16 fighter jets. Never had one come off in flight. From what i heard, they move somewhat faster than even my truck!
I got a question. What company is the acuall ..... sticky ..... or vinyl you used?

Are there any places that sell decals that are tinted and say Dodge or Dakota on them? I can't put any of the "cling-on" types inside because the windshield has those little black dots at the top by the rearview mirrow. Would the outside vinyl decals have any issues with cold Wisconsin weather?

I have the vinyl decal on the outside of my truck and I live in Northern Ohio and have had no problems this winter with the decal. I got my decal from www.dansdecals.com and he do it in over 30 colors so they probably have what you need. Next to the Dakota decal he will have a measurement, but he will make them in any size you want. He is a good guy to buy from. YOu can see pics of my decal on my website.

I can't really tell from the picture, but is it white lettering on black background? My truck doesn't have a tinted visor at tht top if the windshild like most cars do. What I'm understanding is that the vinyl will only be one color. I'm looking for something that is dark tinted vinyl to act as my visor and well as having DODGE or DAKOTA across it in white letters.

The color I got is actually an etched glass color. I don't think dansdecals.com does backgrounds and the Dakota over it. You can e-mail him and ask. Mine has each letter individually so there is no background, just the letter.

I can get anyone any type of decal. Color matched. Send me an e mail with the color you desire, and your address, and I will send you samples to color match.
