Subject: Bumper Paint and Durange decals

I have a 2000 SLT 4x4 with the less than attractive grey plastic trim underneith the front and rear chrome bumpers (I guess it is their to protect my bumpers when I exceed those ever-so-important aproach angles! I have seen several Sport models with that area painted and I like it. How can I go about getting "bumper" paint in glossy black. I have no problem with doing the labor, I just don't know where to find good paint.

Also, I am about to remove the DODGE and 4x4 decals from the rear tailgate and would like to replace the decals with the raise chrome letters DODGE and 4x4 found on the Durango. Does anybody have any idea where I can got those jems?

You should be able to get the decals from any parts department at any dodge dealer. remember to ask for "in-house price". To get your front fasia to a smooth black you ned to do a few things.

1) remove it from the truck and clean it a few times front and back with an oil and wax remover.

2) Get a red scotch brite pad, im not sure of the number(1,2,3) b/c at the shop they are just in a dispenser. Take it and scuff the entire thing making sure to get all area's equaly. Im not sure but if the fasia is "textured", like the handels and mirrors you should try to scuff it more in this stage.

3)Prime it. You should consult a paint shop you need a high quality flexable filler/primer that will bond and not chip of flake. Go to an good auto paint shop and ask. Onse you get it you should again clean the fasia, and tack cloth it to remove any dust. Hit it with the primer a few times allowing it to dry inbetween. After a prime or two let it dry and wet sand it to remove any texture or imperfections.

4) a coslty step but one that I would take, is sealing the fasia, again ask at the paint shop.

5). color the fasia with a few shots of the color

6)after drying shoot it with clear

7). When it dies wet sand it with 1500 paper, being very careful around the edges. This is to remove any imperfections. use a rubbing compound, then a polish, and finally wax it.

8) put it back on....step back a few steps and admire your work!

The decals I am refering to are the raised chrome letters that come on a Durango stock.

As for the Ram's head. Auto Zone has them

i also was plaining on painting my lower bumpers, so thank you for the instrusitons. They our just so out of place and make the whole truck look cheap, but any way just so you know the rear sticks aren't cheap, i price just the dodge one and the dealer wanted about $40, but maybe you'll have better luck
