Has anyone installed Street Scene chrome grille inserts and had a problem with rust?

I began to notice rust about a month after putting the inserts on (both grille and lower valance) -- mainly along the inside edge of the perforated holes. Nothing too noticable after a good wash and polish, but it keeps coming back. Haven't had the time to contact SS about it yet. Any one else experienced this?

I have the satin finish SS inserts and haven't had a problem yet but mine have only been installed for about 3 months.I don't know if it is the Chrome causing it or what but I know one thing when the inserts get wet for any reason they tend to hold water and it takes them a good 1/2 day to dry out.Sorry I couldn't be of any help! Good Luck :-)

Just wondering, are the satin finished inserts aluminum or coated steel?

Picked up my inserts right after SS released the chrome version earlier this year (does look nice with the SLT trim). Maybe I got them too soon, and fell victim to a bad first run production. Who knows??

Payin' all that cash for SS grilles and then they rust? Oh I would be callin' the company on that one...

Guess I'm glad that I just made mine at little cost...

Klc - I got the inserts through Truckperformance.com back in March. They had just been released, and Truckperformance was running a special at the time. Not sure if they're available for cheap somewhere else.

I will try to get some pics soon. I'm in the process right now of getting my website up.

BTY, out of the 4 valance pieces and 4 grill insert pieces, only 2 have rusted. Otherwise, they look great on an SLT.

Installation is pretty easy.

- Remove the grille shell from the hood.
- Remove the existing plastic grille insert (I used a Dremel tool for this).
- Using the supplied clips, attach the SS inserts to the shell.
- Install the hood latch relocator (this was probably the most time consuming and critical step -- maybe 15-30 minutes).
- Reinstall the grille shell and make sure the hood latches properly and can be opened easily.
- As for the valance, it WILL be difficult to reach your hands behind the facia, so my advice is to take off the bumper. It's only held on with 8 bolts (18mm I think), and it will make installation of the valance inserts much easier.

I hope to have my web site up and running next week. Not a lot of pictures yet, but I think I have a few of the new grille inserts.
