Subject: Windowless Camper Shell IP: Logged
Message: I've got a black 93' dakota standard cab short bed and I'm trying to find a windowless camper shell and have been short of luck. If anyone knows where I could buy one let me know, I'm gonna drop the truck 4 inches with 17" rims and carpet the shell and bed, put in 8 12" subs, lights, and a bench seat. What do you guys think? I've seen it on a Dak in my area and it looked sweet with the windowless shell, let me know!

Message: Most of the cap manufacturers have commercial caps with no windows. They cost more for some reason, though. Or, you could black out the windows in a regular cap.

Message: That's cool man, I'm still tossing around the idea, I'd like to have a bed cover, but I'd like the versatility of the topper. I'm tossing around the ideas. Who knows, maybe I'll get both and change them as it strikes me.

Message: I should add that with my experience so far in regards to the added weight,it may be better to go with a fiberglass tonneau, and blo thru the metal under the window,of course this means permanent modification. The weight would not be up as high with a tonneau cover, compared to the cap.I set up an mdf shelf, which looked just like a tonneau under the cap,and was level with the bottom of the window cutout, the enclosures were all on top of the shelf, and sort of a v configuration, pointed together in the rear, and widening at the front, sounded awesome, looked awesome, but the truck was very topheavy. If you do this type of set up,be sure to seal off the airspace behind the enclosures, from the front of the enclosures,if you dont, you will have no low bass, all mids,it'll sound like ass.The biggest plus going with the cap and having the weight higher,is the fact that the modification is temporary, you can put a window back in it,and its stock again.Hope some of this helps you, good luck.

Message: I currently am drving a '92 CC with a windowless shell on it with lexan at the front and rear. It's from Arrow and it looks great. It cost me about $1100 painted. I believe pretty much every company has one you just need to ask for it specifically.
