 Subject: How to convert to 5 lug in front?

I have a 2001 dakota and i'm tired of the dumb 6 bolt pattern. Its to hard to find wheels and when you get the wheels you want someone else has them on there dakota. The real reason for the front conversion is because i'm doing a ford 9inch and a mini tub and i would really like to keep the same wheels all the way around. Money is no big deal i have alot of money in this dakota and would really like to do this and do it right. I have talked to a shop that would do this but i thought i would come here first.

you could order them from a company that sells 5 lug hubs that will fit on dakota spindles(knuckle) or you could weld up the holes and put new studs in, but dont forget about the 6 lug brakes too.

2wd or 4wd.... makes quite a difference. If 4wd, just go with a straight axle. If it is 2wd and money is no object, just have someone cut you custom wheels with 6 lugs... then you wont screw up your front end and no one will have the same wheels.

Well right now i have a ford 5-bolt pattern in the back, so why would i want to have some wheels made for 6-bolt dakota? Why would it be a 4wd and be tubbed? LOL...yes, its 2wd and i will prolly go with what CJ said and weld up the holes and put 5-bolt in. Thanx for the help you guys

I guess I just hang around the 4x4 world too much, I agree it is a street term, but 4x4s are tubbed out all the time to fit bigger tires, and they swap in ford 9 in. rears with lockers or limited slips just the same as street rods... all pretty much processes to get completely different equipment.

I hear you on that one. I've got buddies that have 4x4's and there changing out rearends and frontends all the time. 1/2 ton,1 ton,2 ton,and whatever else. I used to do the 4x4 thing but just kinda got out of it but i'm about to get back in.

ok, you're crazy! Actually, some wheel styles with 5 spokes prevent custom drilling as the lug holes lie between the spokes. Trying to redrill these would be like playing dardass.

how hard/expensive would it be to put a stock 5 lug setup on a 6 lug truck?couldnt u just buy a set of 5 lug rotors for a 5 lug truck?

duh guys lets make this easy most wheel manufators offer the same wheel in 5 or 6 lug so pop on the center cap and only you will know and still looks tight

Problem with the Dakota is that even though it is 6 lug, the spacing is different and unique to dodge dakotas. You can't put 6 lugs from a chevy or ford on it, which is where the problem lies. The selection in the aftermarket is very slim.
Go to tires.com and use their interactive wheel selector and you'll see what I mean.

Buy new 6lug hubs and new studs, take
to machine shop and have them
redrilled.
Easy cause I did it.
