Message: Anybody know where to get some good fog lights at to replace the factory ones. In the last 2 weeks both of mine have gotten cracked lenses from bugs hitting them. I could not believe that bugs hitting them would crack them but they did. I was hoping to replace them with someting a little stronger.

Message: mine were cracked also, but the dealer replaced them under the warranty. They said the cracks were caused by heat.

Message: I don't think mine was caused by heat cause I only use them at night. There were bug pieces stuck in some of the cracks. I suppose the heat could have done it and they could have imbedded themselves in there. Think I'll see if the dealer will replace them under warranty.

Message: I suggest you look into a set of PIAA 510 series lamps. I have the driving beam with the 85w PIAA bulbs in the lamps - they are twice as bright as anything else out there that's not HID. PIAA has two lenses that are interchangeable, a fluted fog lens and a standard "blind the other guy" driving lens. They aren't cheap, but they are the best in their size and price range. http://www.piaa.com/displayLamp.php3?inc=510.html

Message: Took it to the dealer the other day to replace the clock spring and got them to replace the fog lamps for free under warranty. Replaced them with a different kind though. Original one had Plastic lenses, new ones are glass. Or so they feel.

Message: Catz MSC's are a good fit and they look great. They come in 55W, but you can get more powerful bulbs for them. They come in three different bulbs, white, yellow, or hyper white. They range in price between $165-$185.

Message: Anyone know of any good "drop in" replacements for the stock fog lights? I got xenon blubs trying to go for that blue look and they still look a little yellowish, i think its just the tint of the plastic. I would like to be able to keep it hooked up to the factory wiring (im not to fond of wiring stuff), and be able to use the factory switch. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Message: I have recently been looking in to this very topic for my 00 Club Cab 4x4. Stock bulbs suck and I have yet to find a replacement for the 889's no one it seems makes one. PIAA's 510 will fit with mounting kit 30280 but thats $280.00 I dont really want to spend, Pilot(not the best brand where I am from) makes a light part# PL-360 that will fit also for $80.00. Now here comes the sticky part; from the wiring diagrams in the manual(by DC not chiltons or Hyanes) you have to leads going to the bulb in the factory light, one is for ground, the other is for power. I spoke to two techs at work about this and it seems plosable on paper, run the ground to ground on the lamp and the power to light. I dont know if the factory switch would or can handle the amps, I havent done the math yet, I would probably run a fuse somewhere to so not to blow anything in the pdc and screw up anything else electrical. Anyone with ideas please let me know.

Message: Did some homework this week end and found out the 885 bulbs will work in our stock fog lights. Their basically the same bulb, same connector, and size and all but they dont have the coating on the tip like the 899 and the tip has sort of a magnifing lens on it. Put them in mine this evening took 5 min tops brighter then the old ones 50 watts versus 38 watts can almost use them for headlights now, cost was $15.oo from a local parts house, beats $272.oo or $50.00 for aftermarket anyday.

Message: Guys, There is a guy on ebay that sells factory style fog lights that have a metal housing and glass lens, I'm assuming they have the factory style plug. I put some of the higher wattage bulbs in mine and they are warping the plastic lenses. No problems with the factory switch because full wattage does not flow thru switch, it uses a relay.

I'm about to purchase both, but would like some more feedback on wiring to the factory hookups I've got.

Message: Okay, you can not hook aftermarket fog lights to the factory connectors. The factory systme uses a floating ground system. When you turn "on" the fog lights in the cab, what you are actually doin is completeing the circuit on the ground side. +12V is always present at the connector no matter what position the switch is in. When you hook aftermarket fog lights up, you are completeing the groun since thw aftermarkets use a case ground, and +12 need to be suplied to turn them on. Since 12V is always present at the factory connector as soon as you connect it to + wire on fog lights the lights will come on. If you aftermarket lights came with their own wireing harness you will NEED to use it. If you don't want a switch in your cab to turn the lights on an off with and want to use factory knob, hook the wire to the relay into the parking lights +12v wire. The parking lights only get 12V when the switch is on. This way the fogs come on anytime you have parking lights on, and stay on when brights are selected. Just remember to remove the relay for factory lights out of fuse box.

Message: Thanks, HSKR. I haven't decided whether I will tie it into the parking lights or just add one more switch (I already have aftermarket halogen lights under the rear bumper). I put the last switch on the console on the floor because I couldn't find any place that looked very practical to put a toggle switch. Any suggestions?
