Subject: Custom Dash Panel Inserts

Message:
For anyone who has put in one of those instrument panel inserts that replaces the original black gauge panel with white, or flamed, etc.
How did you remove the gauge needles to put in the new overlay, and when you put the needles back on how did you set the needle position so the gauge would read right? Is there some special tool that comes with them?
I was thinking of getting one, but I don't want to have my gauge settings messed up.

Yes, the kits should come with a needle removal tool. You can note the position of the needle when removed by drawing the gauge and the position on a piece of paper according to articles on gauge replacement I have read.

take pics of the gauges with ignition on but not started, ignition off, and with truck running with a digi cam, that way you get the needles back exactly or extremely close to where they were before you started.

Didn't think about taking pictures. That's a great idea. Thanks.

A golf divot tool or a fork also will work. Be sure to pry straight up to ensure that it does not bend the posts.

As for placement, I would advise taking, or drawing, a picture of the needle placements when the engine is warm, and idling. Just turning the key on does not get the tach or speedo moving.
