If your paint is more than a couple years old, you might not want to do that. The paint will be darker under the letters.

I did mine on my R/T a few months ago. (Asumming you have the vinyl decals, it might work also for the other ones) I got a hair dryer and warmed the letter I was doing first really good first, then took a stencil applicator

(this is what it looked like and I got it at Fred Meyer)

http://collector-connection.site.yahoo.net/stencil-applicator-tool.html

Just started to chip away using light pressure and keeping the hair dryer on it. Worked great. I was able to get started with the stencil applicator, and then could just pull the rest off with my hand. No scratches or anything. To get the residue that was left I used Goo Gone and let it soak in a little, then took a cloth and wiped it away. It is true though, if your truck is older, it might show some ghosting on the paint. Mine was 3 years old, and looked just fine, but the owner before waxed and took really good care of everything. Hope this might help a little or give you some ideas, good luck!

i have a 98 intense blue dak and removed all the emblems in 04. no darker areas under the paint, but i wash and wax religiously. also, im not sure about the quad cab emblem, but i took off my magnum v6 badge only to find 2 holes for mounting locators. had to get the holes tack welded and painted after that, but i was having some paint work done anyway.

i havent had the time to debadge it yet. i am planning on leaving the v6 emblem on it. since i have had the truck, i have washed and waxed it regularly. the only thing is that i have a 5 year old truck and i have only had it about a half a year now. whoever had it before me put a few scratches on it and scratched the hell out of the bed as well as a few dents in the bed. i got the dents in the bed knocked out and then got the bed sprayed with line-x so i am not worried about that anymore. gotta love that intense blue pearl paint, eh bluedak98.

My uncle owns a 3M vinyl graphics shop. When they take off the decals they heat them up with a hair dryer and then use a drill with an almost like eraser wheel. It rips the decals and glue off leaving no trace they were ever there. The product is 3M so I'm sure you could find it on a 3M website somewhere. As I recall the product was stupid cheap too. Hope that helps you. Thats how the pros do it anyways.

I have seen someone use one of those. They work good but leave that to the proffesional. You could easily burn the paint.
