I am the original owner of a 1989 dakota convertible. The body is still in nice shape, but the whole undercarrage is rotted out. Does anyone know if it is possible to mount the body on a new frame? What is involved? I hate to let it go. Thanks

Yes, you can lift the cab off the frame and drop it on another frame. If the frame and suspension are all rotted out, I bet the body is too. Once you get the body off, you'll be amazed at how much cancer there is.

Thanks - Do you know if I would have to find the exact same year etc. Have they changed the frame fit over the years? I'm in Connecticut - do you know of any places that might do that kind of thing?

I believe 87-96 Dakotas are all essentially the same. In theory, you should be able to swap your cab onto any 87-96 Dakota. In theory. However, what reallly happens is that from year to year the manufacturers make lots of small changes. You can still make it work, but the details may be a real bear to solve. You're much better off with another '87.

As for shops, can't help you. Way out of my neighborhood. But if you're going to pay somebody to do this, expect to pay a lot. It won't be cheap. You must really love this truck.

Thanks for your help. I don't know what I'll do - it can sit there some more - I've got a big driveway. I should have taken better care of it over the years. Thanks again
