Subject: What is it Sport or RT? IP: Logged
Message: I was thinking of buying a 2003 Dakota I saw on a lot last night. It was only a quick drive by, but I thought I saw both "Sport" and "R/T" logos on the side. I'd like to get a Blue book cost before going to the lot. Can anyone tell me what to look for to tell me what model this is? I understand the "R/T" has a V8 - Are there any markings that easily identify the engine, without looking for spark plugs?

Message: there is a number of things to look for in an R/T
check if it looks lowered...if the front and back bumpers are painted to match the body of the truck...if it has 17 in wheels....fender flares...a 5.9 V8(look for a Z in the eighth slot in the VIN number on the dash)
i dont imagine anybody with an R/T would go and put Sport badges on their truck...it would look dumb...so odds are somebody just grabbed some R/T badges and slapped them on a sport

Message: Wouldn't there be some label that says the engine size? 5.9 is an rt motor.

Message: Some Daks have the 5.9 and aren't R/Ts.
To know for sure just look at the VIN. IF there is a Z it is an R/T.
Everyone with an 88-96 dak needs to get in on the custom gauge group buy. We only need 13 more. www.speedhut.com

Message: It was most likely a Sport model owned by an idiot who added the R/T stickers.
2003 R/T's have color-matched bumpers (Sport models have unpainted black bumpers), chrome 17" R/T-specific wheels, 4-wheel disc brakes, is lowered 1" from the factory, and would have the 5.9L V8 engine with 4-speed automatic transmission. If you pop the hood and see coil packs or a black plastic intake manifold then it's a 4.7L V8.
