Message: The release ring should hang right below the braces are in your grille...
You can look at the full sized picture to see where it should be: Custom Grill Pic
This pic is kinda large so I am linking to the full sized version, Here is the "smaller one", however the full sized one will show more detail:
It's not that hard to do really... and when you pop your hood, you just reach your finger in under the grille (there will be about a 1 inch space between the bottom of the grille and the bumper where you can stick your fingers in and grab the keyring) and pull it down thus disengaging the release.
Personally, on a black truck, I would go with a silver grille. Make it stand out some. Black on Black is awful dark, but that's just my opinion. Do what you feel is "right" for you.

Message: Just putting on the topic section. It looks PIIIIMPED!!! I went with the silver. All is well with the latch, I figured it out before you replied. Thanks for your site, I couldn't have done it without it. I might post pics soon.

Message: I got these from Loew's Hardware... altogether I spent like $6... I don't think you are gonna find any cheaper than that.
This is a "custom built" grille... Were you looking for a "pre-fab" grille when you asked "how much are they starting from?"

Message: I just did this over the weekend, It took almost no time. Thanks for the great details. The only thing I did differently was the hood release. I just cut a small hole on the inside that I can fit two fingers through to release the hood. I used door edge guard around the hole and it looks pretty good.
Thanks again!

Message: I got so pumped after seeing this article today that this afternoon i went to the hardware store, grabed all the stuff to make the relase then went to get the best part...nothing but PLASTIC gaurds!!! I checked a few other stores with no luck.
So, now i'm looking at alternatives, can someone give me the dimentions of the link size? i.e. width height and wire gauge of each link? possibly of the real speed grills (perhaps i could clone it even better...no offense to fury's primo install!)
Thnaks!!!

Message: Did you check with Lowes Hardware? That's where I got them from... and pretty much it is a standard item that they carry...
On my website is a picture of the label that is on the gutter mesh. Hopefully that will help ya.

Message: Well... print the picture of the label of the grill mesh on my site and then take it to Lowes and ask if they can "special order" it for you.
It only costs about $1.08 per 36" sheet... and you will need at least 5 sheets (if you don't mess up any in the install).
I'm sure they can get it for you... if you ask. It's definitely something that they normally stock. Good luck man.

Message: I had a hard time finding the aluminum grills too. Lowes in my area only had the plastic ones but I did find a Home Depot that carried both. The aluminum came in a five pack for about $5.70

Message: Hey DakFury. Thanks for the idea on the grill. I used your I idea as a foundation and modified it a bit. INstead of using the bolts at the top (under the hood) and the tapping screws at the bottom I simply cut out the grille louvers and used a pop rivet gun and rivited the mesh to the grill. It real tight. Then for the bumper instead of taking it off I used 2 chain link fence tension bars and screwed them to the back of the bumper. There are two screws slight off center of the outer viens on the lower valence. I then measured and riveted the screen to the bars and it looks awesome. I will hopefully have some pics of it by weeks end for anyone interested. My only advantage is that I didn't have to remove the bumper.
P.S. I love pop rivets.
