Does it cost less to paint your truck a factory color? I want to paint my truck the color of the new Rams (the charcoal color). Would the factory paint it? Thanks

If the factory were to paint it, expect to pay triple.

Find out the color code and goto a few paint/body shops for estimates. They will either have the paint in stock or can easily order it.

To get the whole truck done, depending on the place you go, expect several thousday. I got an estimate to get a few scratches on the bed rails and that was over $900. They had to repaint the whole bed and tailgate. Like I said it depends on the place. I went to a body shop so that's why it was expensive. If you go to a place that just does painting it might me slightly cheaper. But remember that you get what you pay for. Let me know what you find out though.

You could get just a regular re-spray...which is where they do not take anything apart and just paint it sitting there. That will be around $1,400-$2,000. To get a good looking professional job, I'd say more like $2,500-$3,000. On a Pro-Paint job they paint it peice by peice. It will ultimatley look 10 times better that just a plain respray.

For the same color where I live (AZ) it runs me about $759-1000. For an entirely different color expect to pay in the ballpark of about $3000

I would concur..a totally new color done professionally would be on the plus side of $3000. Maaco would be $500-1000, any color.

We checked into getting an old car repainted at the bodyshop we use..he quoted about $3000 for the same color, but he does good work and guarantees it for the life of the car. Im sure that quote was pulling most trim off the car not just respraying it as it sits.

One thought would be you could sand the truck yourself and scuff the surface, removing a decent amount of prep labor from the price. Jsut have them shoot the paint and finish it off.

I would not recommend Macco at all. If you want paint to peel in 2 years, then go there, other wise save some money and have it done right. A good shop will do it for about $2,500-$3,000 as i said. You need to take most of the tags off and get new ones. Changing colors is not a good idea, they need to paint EVERYTHING! Under the hood, door seals, etc.... That becomes even more costly, not that you were thinking of changing colors from what I see in previous posts

painting is costly expescially when you want to change colors. 3000 seems cheap if you want a quality job. to change colors they will take all the body panels off which takes time and then put them back together. i have painted cars, as i am a painter by trade. i am not as good as a guy who does it everyday. but do take my advice...body shops at dealerships are not the best place to have a car painted. some of them do a nice job but in general the majority suck, and the charge by chiltons hours which are grossly over estimated.

cb,i take offence to what you said about dealership body shops, ive been a painter for close to 20 years and the dealership is the best place to get your car painted because all techs are factory certified, system certified, drug tested, someone who has benifits tends to do his job with more quality, plus i know alot of independents who like to cut corners to save money, hence maybe on your car,at my dealership we do every job by the book,no shortcuts, wanna save a buck go to an independent shop,go back in a year and see what kind of support you get when your paint is flying off

I don't remember who said it but if you have the time and patience, go ahead and sand the body yourself if you are changing colors. A friend of mine got his truck painted and it was estimated at around $1300 dollars, but after he sanded it and came back, they did the job for $850. Just a suggestion.

If your looking for quick and dirty, Macco is your man. Rinse (water only)and spray.

A quality paint job takes a lot of prep work. If your qualified to do that part yourself, you can save a buncn.
For good looking results, you need to remove all trim, mirrors, glass, door handles, ect. If this stuff is getting painted, it also need the prep treatment.

Results hours of labor at $60.00 per hour adds up pretty fast.
Good base coat, color and clear coat materials are also pricy.

If you are planning on selling fairly soon, go Macco for around 700-1000

A job you will be proud of will run you around 4500.

just learn to paint yourself. you can do it piece by piece at home in your own garage. that way you can make each piece perfect. and then at the end you can sell the sprayer or keep it for your next car or a friends car. plus it gives you bragging rights with the spotless paint job. good luck it.
