wern't they out of style in the early 90's? no they dont have a kit, but im sure a shop can cut out a section of your roof for you and cap the ends.

I dunno if that would be "safe"... Cutting completely through the roof is generally "not" a good idea.

the only targa tops that i have seen are for the old boxy S10's (up to 93), nissan hard body's, and old mazda's. im 99.9% sure they dont have a kit for the 97> dakota's.

I think that would look kind of cool. I used to think rag top mini trucks were cool, but that was when I was a looser. I grew up and learned how to be "cool". lol

roby, if you think targa tops are cool, you still have some growing up to do. they have been out dated since the late 80's-early 90's.
im not tring to bash anyone here, but before you go cutting away at your roof, just know that the FACT is that its out of date.

Yeah you're right, but you got to admit, you haven't seen a dakota with one? I was just thinking out loud. I'd like to see what a gen 3 dak would look with one. Time to get out photo shop.

Just because it hasn't been done before, doesn't mean people will like it, but if you really want one...

Dodge made a limited number of convertible Dakota Sports from 1989 to 1991. Here's a link from another post: http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Desert/1727/DodgeDakota.html

Kinda interesting if you ask me. It's the only convertible pickup I've ever seen.

By the way, what is a Targa top?

I think a removable hard top would be OK if and only it was done in good taste. Smooth clean lines to provide that factory appeal.

NO BOOTLEGGING, no shortcuts, and NO half-wit engineering!!!!!

couldnt u just graft in a windshield frame from a targa topped car thats the same width as a dak and chop the back wall of the cab to the appropriate height and graft the catches into the roof.

personally i think that a convertible genIII would look really nice, considering it was done right.I think it would have the same appeal as the new chevy sst's. It would bring that 50's appeal to newer stylin. i have a 97 that has alot of custom body parts( hood, grill, bumper cover, roll pan,taillights,3-pc bed spoiler, headlights and an agressive lowering set-up) I had my architech buddy design a photo for me and it really looked nice. Then I seriously looked into the project. It seems that the toughest obsticle was the doors and window track. Making a true hardtop convertible would be very hard to do.Think about it, the upper door sections would have to be removable with the top.And that presented enough problems for me to be only a dreamer. just my opinion.
