I damaged my tail gate by trying to unstick a tractor with one of those "stretch straps". The strap's stiching broke and the strap snapped back and dented my tailgate. The dents really aren't that bad, but definately noticable.
I just got an estimate to have it repaired (replaced) for $622. Ouch
I was thinking that if I was going to spend that much, I might consider flipping the tailgate handle and "shaving it" while I was at it. It seems I saw a place that sold tail gate "skins". Does anyone have any advice or would someone lend my six hundred bucks??
Any advice or donations is appreciated.

I say keep looking for a tailgate. I once backed into a tree with my tailgate down, that's what I get for haveing Doubble limo tint on the back. I found one for around $350, and it just so happend it was black so I didn't have to paint it. Which means I didn't get to shave it. But it's not hard to shave it, there's a few sites with detailed instructions on how to do it. But I wouldn't attempt it unless I had faith in myself and some experience. The kit costs about $45 to $50 dollars and I'm not sure what your local body shop would charge to do it for you. not too much. Sorry I can't remember the parts company that tracked down my tailgate for me.

There's a used Supercharged R/T on a dealership lot in Vegas where the previous owner had re-done his tailgate for a tonneau cover. The outside handle was shaved and relocated to the interior of the tailgate. The replacement handle frame said "Sir Michael's" on it so you might want to try there.

I have a extra tailgate that I would let go for a 100.00 it came off a 2000, its patriot blue but I paint cars for a living so if its the wrong color no big deal I can spray it for you for 50.00, shipping might be a bit pricey though, e-mail me if interested at cdartgo@home.com

Dude, go for it, it's the best price you are going to find anywhere. Even with the shipping, you'll have to pay shipping anywhere you do. Is it just me or is it hard to find Dakotas in wrecker yards and stuff?

I have been looking for months for a junk yard that might have some parts for a dak but they tr NIS ( not in sight ) in TN and SW FL

I would like to get it painted black. I would prefer that all hardware be removed before painting then re installed.

I just got my tailgate from cdartgo.
Our deal was done as agreed and the tailgate looks great.
