Subject: Replacing aftermarket window switches IP: Logged
Message: I can't find anything in the forums about this, so if this question is a repeat I apologize. (This may be a bit off topic as well.)
I just finished installing an aftermarket window kit on my 2000 Dakota, the motors are great, and it works very well, but the switches that come with it are cheap to say they least, they sometimes get stuck, but they eventually go back to neutral/off. (I mounted them below the 12v sockets under the dash.) I would like to replace them with some nice sturdy metal toggle switches, on-off-on but I can only find them rated as high as 20 amps.
My questions are:
1) The fuse on the power line for the windows is 25 amp, will there be a problem with using switches rated for only 20 amp? I think it will be.
2) The switches with the kit have 5 connectors
1-motor
2-ground
3-live
4-ground
5-motor
the toggle switches have 6 connectors
1 4
2 5
3 6
if I wire the toggle switch this way will it work?
1 and 6 - live
4 and 3 - ground
2 - motor
5 - motor
any suggestions/advise would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime I'm going to keep looking to see if I can at least find the switches with a 25 amp rating.
Thanks
