Subject: 5" Front Lift
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi,
I just got an 1992 3.9 V6 2WD. By checking the Exhaust I saw that I could very easy turn the rear axle and put the springs on top of the axle. This way I could keep the shocks because the brackets are higher when I turn the axle.
Or I'll by bigger shocks. Anyway, how can I raise the front by 5"?
I can"t find any coils that would fit. Or spacers. None. All I found were pitman arms for 5".
Can anyone help me with the coils and shocks?
Thanx.

have fun driving backwards everywhere when you flip the axle over.......if you want the springs on top of the axle you have to cut the spring perches off and weld em back to the top or you can just find an axle housing out of a 4x4 dak

no,you dont have to weld em back on,once you get the spring perches off all you have to do is set them back on the top,the weight of the truck and some good tourqe on the u bolts and itll be fine.did the same thing on a '67 jeep works out nice and saves your wallet.only thing we had to do was modify the shock mounts.good luck

are you on crack!!!!!! you have to weld the perches to the axle. You dont think that if the axle has enough wrap that it can strech them u bolts your talkin about that it cant spin the tube on the perch. These are things that upset me bad advice on the net from people that dont have a clue. And from people that are not even aware of how unsafe their ride is as they go 90mph down the highway with me next to them, just like a person whom shall remain nameless on this that did a shackel flip to lower his truck and the only thing holding the back shackel is two bolts and a 4 inch weld with 5 inches of bracket hangin in mid air underneath the frame. I'm just hopeing my ride is not behind him with the rearend comes out from under it. To everyone doin things like this STOP !!!!!!! your goin to kill someone ifnot yourself. Their is a Reason that the manufacture DOSENT WELD SHACKELS TO THE FRAME !!!!!!!, It weakins the frame.

I agree with most of what you say. Suspension changes have to be made carefully and intelligently, or bad things happen. The factory spends a lot of money engineering the suspension to work properly in all conditions. Hacking away at it without planning or forethought is a recipe for trouble.

Moving the axle from the top of the springs to the bottom - and vice versa - is a time honered way of changing the ride height. It's been done probably millions of times with excellent results - provided you do it correctly. Buy some new spring perches and bolt it all together. Pay very carefull attention to pinion angle. Once everything is exactly the way you want it, weld the perches to the axle tube. You must do this or bad things happen.

You're right, never weld a shackle to the frame. Nut not because it weakens the frame. A proper weld will not weaken anything. The shackle must articulate at both ends - spring eye and frame mount - for it to operate correctly. If you just have two fised end mounting points, you'll get 0 axle articulation. Might as well replace the springs with a solid bar of steel.

I'm sorry i didnt write that correctly, he didnt weld the actual shackle to the frame he welded the shackel mount to the frame just upside down the suspension would still work just not safely and even if properly welded it will still have bad results if you go to any place of biz. that has a crane on i beam's take a close look its also bolted why you ask.......? cuz welds over time i dont care how good you are or even better (cuz i run into it all the time ) think you are their gonna break. Think of it this way if the shackel mounts could be welded to the frame and done with safety in mind dont you thing that the engineer's that get paid countless of hundreds of thousand's of dollar's per year to pinch a single penny out of a car they would. The big 3 as all the others spend way way more money haveing to riveit those to the frame then they would ever have to by welding it
food for thought
