I have a 99 Durango and I'm geting dubs next week, I was wondering what is the biggest tire size I can fit with out a drop. I want to leave it stock hite. Also, the store I'm buying the rims from told me I should get a chip, because the stock computer can't handle the 20's,is this true and is there any ohter mods I should add with the 20's. I alredy have a intake and exaust. Thanks for any help.

Yea, take their word on the chip...i know i should have. I miss alot of gears.

Anyways, if the Darango fenders are like the Dak, you will need like a 275/45/20....thats what i have and it does rub.

I can imagine slower speed but if you have a v8 then I cant imagine it going unbearably slow. The chip boosts your hp and torque. Are you wanting to get the jet stage 1 chip or stage 2? I'd suggest stage 2 since you already modified the your intake and exhaust.
Cheapest I have seen the "real" jet chip was about $279, anyone know where to find an even better price on an actual legit product?
How bad is the shop screwing you for them rims? I try to save every nickel I've got so I went the internet route.

Be smart and buy your rims from the net. I baught my rims for $700...the local shops were all asking $1,600+ for the exact same ones.

You can get tires on the net for alot cheaper to, but you would have to take them to a shop to be mounted, blanced, ect.

Buy rims on the net, get the tires from Discount Tire and get the warranty....its well worth it.

*I should have gotten the chip because my rims are way, and i mean way too heavy for my poor little v6. Over 3k rpm's just to get to 40mph. :o\

dude it isnt cuz they are heavier lol it s because of the diameter of the tire. if tyou have smaller the tire hasto go around more times to go the same speed makign the rpms higher and if you get way bigger tires it makes it harder to get them started going

wll the foirst number is the width of the tire and the second is what percentage of width is sidewall. so take the poecentage of width and figuire the sdewall and then multiply that by 2 and add the rim size. go try a bunch and see if u find one or use that tire calculator thing

Well, Thats not the case in my situation. My wheels are only a little bit bigger than my factories. The truck was made for the factor wheels' weight and deminsions....the weight is what is screwing me.

Why do you do this to your trucks and yourselves?

The factory tire sizes for a 04 2wd are 245/70/16
or 255/65/16.

A 245/70 tire has a 6.86 inch sidewall. 6.86 x 2
+ 16 = 29.72 inch outer tire diameter.

A 255/65 tire has a 6.63 inch sidewall. 6.63 x 2
+ 16 = 29.26 inch outer tire diameter.

If you go to a 20 wheel you need to reduce the
sidewall to ~ 4.75 inches.

With a 265 tire a 45 profile (265/45/20) is just
about right with a 29.54 inch outer diameter.

Or a 285 tire with a 40 profile (285/40/20) would
have a 29.12 inch out diameter.

I am not sure how much a stock tire and wheel
weigh, but stick one on the bathroom scale and
find a 20 tire and wheel combination at a similar
weight.

As long as you keep the outer diameter and weight
similar the only negatives you should experience
are a bumpier ride and greater risk of bending
wheels.

265/55/20

265 * .55 = 145.75mm sidewall
145.71 / 25 = 5.83 inch sidewall
(5.83 * 2) + 20 = 31.66 inch outer diameter

So you are gaining close to two inches in diameter.

My AWD QC has 31" factory tires (265/70/16) so that would not be be a fitment issue as long as the offset is correct.

But if you are going to put 20s on your truck then you probably lowered it as well?

I dont want to lower my truck I want to put the biggest size tires on (with out rubing) that will fit. I was also thinking of 285/50/20. That would be a 31.2" tire. What do you guys think.

Sounds like that'll rub kelly. I'm running 275/45/20s and it looks great and I think if it gets any bigger than that, then you'll have rubbing issues.

I'm wrong, you can have a ___/55/20 tires. A guy in my town had some. I left that blank there because i forgot went there. :o\

Anyways, his tires are alot skinnier than mine. About the same width as some factory 15's. He said it rubs, but not horribly.
