Subject: Strobe Lights? IP: Logged
Message: Hey,
I was thinking about putting strobe lights on my Dakota just for fun. Does anybody know of any good ones? If so, has anyone used them on theirs? I was hoping to find some that would work as the strobe light and a regular headlight, kind of like police cars. Thanks!

Message: I know Galls sells them, for around $60-70 a bulb if I remember right. A basic strobe system can be had for around $250 last time I researched it. Also very cool and good idea to wire this into your alarm.

Message: Bill, if you search on ebay motors using "dodge dakota" as your search word, there are several kits on sale for a dakota. Most of them are running for around $20. Hope this is what you're wanting.

Message: I did the Ebay check after I posted my post on here. I found the strobe lights. Not exactly what I wanted. I was hoping to find some that replaced the stock headlight bulbs, so i could use the headlights at night and the strobes whenever I wanted, without having two sets of lights. The set on ebay looks like something you would mount on the grill. Thanks for the help!

Message: Bill...just FYI, they do not make an actual "Strobe Light Headlight Bulb"...I am on the Fire Department here in New Berlin, and all we can get is kinda like the kits on eBay...you have to drill a hole in your headlights, and drop the strobes in there.
If your gonna pursue doing this, just remember NOT to use them on the roads...or anywhere where a cop can see you. It is a BIG fine (I think somewhere around $1,000) for impersonating an officer, and there is a possibility that your vehicle will be confiscated...I was told this before I joined the department and started installing my lights and stuff...so just be careful!!

Message: Brad,
I think you are probably right. I don't think I want to go to all the trouble to drill into my headlights, especially with the chance of getting in major trouble should they come on accidentally. Thanks for the info.

Message: I have many strobes on my Dak. Im on the FD as well, but installed them long before I joined. I used them for shows. If you want to do it, do it right. DOnt get the 40/pair ones from AutoZone or Pepboys. Go get a Whelen set, or even Tomar. (Im partial to Whelen) They are more expensive, but WELL worth the money.
Go to my homepage, and click on "How To" section and three article down is a link to "Strobe Lights" that I put togethere. YOu can see what I have, and some animation of the lights at the bottom of the page.

Message: LOL.... i know its a bit much... Just wanted to point out some options for you..thats all.
Im a bit of a electronic nut...and got acrried away. Oh well. Sure is fun at shows though!
In seriousness, there are many options for you. A simple 4 head setup (2 in the front, 2 in the rear, complete with all cables, a switch, 4 strobe heads [lamps], and power pack) will run you about $250. You can get multiple patterns, and even some have high/low switch for intensity.

Message: Yaa... the only reason I get away with that many strobes....plus a Siren with P/A, as well as scanner and CB, is becasue im on the FD and all the state troopers know me (CT State Police Dept. Troop K is housed accross the street from the FD)... When I go to other states it gets kinda tricky with lights. I usually change all the lenses to Amber and dont worry about it...

| RE: Strobe Lights? IP: Logged
Message: Just find the output wire on the alarm system and tap it into the input wire for the strobe pack. when your alarm is set off...the lights will go off.
Keep in mind that strobe packs do take a small amount of juice..so if there is a possibility of having the alarm set off for long periods of time...beware on the amount of battery juice you have left when trying to start your vehicle. could easliy be done for only two strobes though.

Message: I was curious as to the legality of them. I know that you can't have them while on the road but can't you run them while your parked? As long as your not pulling people over. I thought as long as you weren't on the road they're fine to play with.

Message: I have a set in my 02 CC R/T front and rear and i'll tell you what i love em. My ? to you is do you have an Autozone around you? If you do go there and get them. I got mine for about 10 bucks a set and that comes with everything switch included. I have mine stuck in from the inside of the headlight(cause i'm too lazy to take it out and drill the hole close to the bulb) and I also put my rears in the clear backup spot in the tails. Looks real good at night but as a tip. When you drill the holes for them drill it so the gromets are really tight cause if they get wet you have to put a new set in... I drilled mine tight and have had no probs. They come with all kinds of sleeves for the stobe. I have green on mine to match the neons but it comes with blue, red, purple, white, green, and i think there is one other color but i'm not sure. If you have an ?'s email me I like the fact that you can adjust the speed on these.
