Yeah, I'm crazy. Nothing like cutting a hole in a perfectly good factory hood. I got the scoop from a '79 trans am on ebay for dirt cheap. Also got an air cleaner assmebly from a '93 318 Dakota. Project won't be done until I get done with finals in a few weeks. Hopefully it isn't a failure?!

Kewlness- definitely different. I was always told that just cutting a hole in the hood would severly weaken it...Is that true from your experience?

if you cut through the bracings (the members on the underside of the hood), which it looks like you did, the hood will be weakened quite a bit. however, i dont think it will be all that bad, you might just need to be careful when opening and closing it.if you know how to weld or could get somebody who does, you could weld in some small tubing around the shaker to stiffen up the hood.

I haven't actually cut the hole yet, the picture I posted was just with the scoop sitting on the hood. I won't be able to cut the hood and fabricate an air intake until after finals are over in a few weeks. But I am definitely thinking about some kind of brace in there, might have to rig something else up. Shouldn't be a problem when the hood is closed and latched, only when opening and closing.
