Message: I decided to take my truck down for an oil change and figured while I was at it I'd have them mount & balance the new tires & Enkei rims I'd bought this summer.
Imagine my surprise when the guy whips out a torque wrench to tighten my lugs.
Way to go, Wal Mart

Message: Why the HELL would you take your truck to WalMart???
I don't know about the techs at your WalMart but the ones at the WalMart near me couldn't check the oil level if you asked them!

Message: Guess it depends where you are. I don't trust our local Walmart either. Our local quick lube shop is pretty good though but have heard horror stories from others about them.

Message: i guess it depends on the wal mart in your area. was getting my vehicles oil changes there until one time last year. i caught them when they forgot to change the oil filter on my wife's car. i made her go right back and they put a new filter on without hassle but, i do my own oil changes now.

Message: If I can't or won't do the repairs or maintinance myself, I take my truck to the dealership I bought it at. The less people who have their paws on my Dakota the fewer there are to blame when it goes bad. I've found that the dealership will take full responsibility for any repair or fix, so long as they were the only ones to work on the truck.

Message: mistakes happen at all places folks.
How about the top Cadillac Excellence CSI (thats customer serivce scores) in the country 2 years running forgettin to put oil in a car? Or THe lugh nuts not torqued right and the wheel falling off? You do the volume of repairs/maintence these places do and tell me you dont make a mistake. It happens, its wether or not it happens again and again and again. You cant win em all

Message: You hit the nail on the head, Trist.
I can change my own oil but it's enough of a pain in the ass that I'll let my WalMart do it for $15 bucks. I've never had or heard of any problems there.

Message: Not replacing the filter isnt as bad as what happened to my brother's car when he trusted it to walmart... they replaced the oil filter.. but with the wrong damn one, and caused his engine block to crack.. along with the head... took 6 months and a court battle to get them to pay for the repairs

Message: had a friend that worked at walmart and got her oil changed. They put the filter on and all but never shut the hood all the way. She(being a blonde i guess) didn't notice it until the hood flipped up and over the roof of her car on her way home. Ohh well, the oil change was a freebee anyway.

Message: $15 isn't worth getting cheap oil and a cheap filter put on my truck. If they used the stuff I use for oil change, the materials alone cost more than $15. Fram filter and Pennzoil oil will never touch my motor. I do all my own maintenance. That way, if something goes wrong, I have nobody to blame buy myself, and I also know what has been done to it. I'm not sitting there wondering if they are doing the job right, or if they went out for a "test drive" and were racing around in my truck(which is far from stock and way out of warranty)

Message: Alot of people just don't have time to do it them selves. Time is money. I usually let the dealer do it, they let me have a car from the used lot so I'm not losing too much time.

Message: Even still, I wouldn't just drop my truck off at a Wlamart, or quicklube place and pay the standard fee for an oil change using whatever they decide to pull off the shelf. I'd still buy my own oil and filter and tell them to use that, and don't think I wouldn't check the filter to make sure they used mine. Not sure how to verify the oil, but as stated before, Pennzoil and Quaker State(most common used oils at those places) will never be put into my truck,

Message: Well, not sure what studies you have seen, but Mobile1 Synthetic oil and K&N oil filters are a lot better in quality and protection than Fram and Pennzoil.

Message: You want to talk about quick lube horror stories??
I work at a Jiffy Lube. I couldnt tell you the number of times the customer orders mobil1 after we already put our pump oil in it. Do you think they go and drain out the old oil? Hells no. From my understanding if you go synthetic and then go back you can really screw things up. I know that after I quit there in a few weeks Im never going back there for an oil change. I am borrowing a case of MO16 filters though.

Message: no matter what mistakes, happen. I worked for Pep boys, for a while, in the last year, two major accidents are related to them, one was in the Jersey area, where lugs weren't tightened, tires FLEW off, crossed highway, and plowed through the WINDSHIELD of oncoming cars, killing two people.. f'ed up, but these shops, no matter how qualified they claim their people are, most employees have little to no experience...
I have been under the hoods of cars from before I had learned to ride a bike... I had two cars over a four month period, that I KNOW that i torqued down the oil plug, within two weeks, they had backed out... both were on hondas, ironically, and when they returned, "we" replaced the plug bolt, no more problems... mistakes Happen!! if you dont want to risk it, then do it yourself, and then when somthing goes wrong you can scream at yourself....

Message: Interesting how the studies by Fram and Pennzoil say their products are superior while K&N and Mobile 1 say theirs are supperior. While yet another study, this one and independant study show's little or no difference.
