There should be a round plastic piece on top of the shift knob. Pry this out with a small screwdriver. Underneath is a 13mm (I think) nut. Remove this and unscrew the knob. If you do go with a Hurst T handle, they make one which fits the 10 x 1.5 threads.

i had to use a pipe wrench to get mine off, but i bought my truck used (it too is an 98) and i think the guy also had an aftermarket shift knob and glued the old one back on. it was a pain.

I have a buddy who gave up trying to get it off. So he gave up on the skull shifter, and went for the a plastic doll Of Bob Dole. And plopped the head right on over it.

Does anyone know if Hurst makes a pistol grip shifter or shifter knob? The 69 or so Roadrunners and some other Mopar muscle came with this Hurst setup. Very nice and functional. I even saw some NASCAR Winston Cup cars later in the 70's using this shifter (even non-Mopars). Thought if it's available it might be worth adding to my 2001 4.7 5 speed currently on order.

Thanks
