 Subject: silver amber bulbs

I recently bought clear corner lamps for my 2000 dakota. Before installing them, I have heard that you can spray a light coat of silver engine paint on them to get them to glow amber, but look silver when they are off. If anyone has done this, could you please tell me how you painted them and how they looked in the clear corners? Thanks.
P.S. Does the paint eventually wear off from the heat of the lights?

yeahi i tried "dusting" some paint on works good........for a while,i keep doing it every few monthes to keep them perfect.cheap easy fix for the look you want

i just did the bulbs. if all goes well i should have the corners here later this afternoon. i'll try to get pics. be sure and use engine paint not just regular paint. like i said, i will make pics available when i get them installed. ~Ryan

I just painted them with silver engine paint, and it looks sweet. Did you guys paint the entire bulb, because I just painted the end, but it still looks great. The only problem I had was that one of the bulbs had a crack in it, and it blew, but that wasn't a result of painting as much as it was a result of me dropping it on the pavement. Oops. Now I have a clear bulb temporarily in its spot. Hopefully no cops will notice.

I did this once, over 2 years ago, and it's still looking silver, amber when lit.
I took a soda straw, and attached the bulb's base to the straw with masking tape. Then a light coat of engine paint, let dry, install.
