Message: Who makes an affordable one piece lid that is
somewhat of a low profile. How do lids stand
up to abuse? ive seen situations where old
lids are rubbing both sides of the box on the
outside, resulting in rust . Is the mopar factory
lid any good? I live in canada. Ontario dealers
would be nice.

Message: Gaylord has great lids, but expensive.
I have an X-2000 (very expensive). It goes over the rails and the bed stays totally dry.
Any cover is going to rub the paint where it sits. Mine had scratched the paint some, so when I had the bedliner sprayed in they sprayed up over the rails. With the lid down you can't see it and the paint is protected.

Message: how expensive do you mean 1000 or 650 because my dad bought one built in canada it by rader called the low rider and it is low profile and it has no holes drilled in the box because it attaches to the rail stop by your local dealer and ask for them

Message: If you want a light weight, low profile, fiberglass tonneau cover for an excellent price the CheckMate FX is the way to go. It is only $329. You can only get it from the manufacturer.

Talk to Chris and tell him that Keith in Dallas sent you and he will knock off $20. You can't beat the deal. It only comes in white or black but it can be painted to match. It looks like glass after its painted. It is also the only flush cover that I have ever seen. The 50 lb weight is also great for those racers.

Message: My experience with the mopar bed cover is that it SUCKS ASS!! the set screws for the hinge, which were supposed to be for centering the hinge (done by the factory), had 1" of play. that caused the bed cover to slid form side to side. It ruined my paint in a matter of seconds, the first time a got on the freeway I looked in the rearview and saw it slamming from side to side CHIPPING MY PAINT, F'ers. and since i felt confident about ordering FROM MOPAR a part that would fit perfectly, i installed myself and was told by dealer "Thats too bad, but sorry nothing we can do!" Once I fixed the set screws it worked fine, no problems with rain or anything, but it put me off of mopar accessories 4-ever.

the dealer to install your accessories, that way
you can always go back to complain, and n
this case you would have had reason for new

Message: If you purchase the quick release hinges with the CheckMate it will come off in approximately 30 seconds. All you have to do is pop the struts off and lift the cover while pulling away from the hinges. It is so light (about 30 lbs.) that it isnt much to handle. I couldn't imagine the cover ruining from removing it frequently. I dont know what could ruin on it.

Message: Have you considered a Roll-n-Lock retractable tonneau? I just installed one on mine and love it. It has rained extremely heavy a couple of times over the past couple of weeks and I have had only a couple drops of water in the bed. It is very low-profile…almost flush with the rails, and like I said it is retractable, so you don’t have to worry about what you are going to do with it when you need to haul that new TV home or anything else that is more than 18” high. A friend and I installed it in a little over an hour. The other nice thing is that everything is clamped on, so you don’t have to worry about drilling any holes. Plus it locks to the tailgate, and is extremely durable (apparently you can stand on top of it, I haven’t tried though).
Hope this helps,
Jason

Message: Hey TEAMFAST, where are you in Ontario? I'm in Brampton!
You can call Van & Truck World at 905-826-9777 and ask for John (Manager). He has the Gaylord lids for about 1500.00CAD which I believe includes paint. They are in Mississauga, but have other shops in Ontario.
I would not hurt to call a local paint shop and get a quote for labour and paint and add it to the price of a lid that you like and see if that works out better for you. Just do some research.
I agree with Grant...Spray bedliner on your rails to protect them. Rhinolinings in Mississauga will spray them for you for about 100.00CAD. You can also do a the prep work yourself by scuffing up the surface with sandpaper then cleaning the surface with degreaser and see what price he can give you. His name is Simon BTW.
Sorry for the long post...e-mail me if you have any more Q's.

Message: I just bought a Leer fiberglass cover for a 2001 4x4 Quad. About $800 (US) installed. Looks great. About three inches in profile. Not exactly flat, with contours that complement the contour of the the engine hood and fenders (profile is raised higher over the center of bed for clearance and lower in the rear corners). Very solid. Exact paint match. Dry so far. Grey fabric glued to underside (looks like indoor/outdoor carpet). Forward hinged with support struts and pushbutton release with key lock. I haven't had it off yet but a couple pulled pins and two guys and off it should come. Frame mounted to rails stays on.
I was originally told that I should be able to remove the frame if I wanted (I didn't want it smashed by a load of gravel), but the installer used caulk on the front rail for a dry seal. Oh well. Big garbage cans (like 55 gallon drums) on their side fit underneath, but there will be times when I just have to remove the cover. You can't drive with it raised.
My bed liner is under-the-rail and the installer may need to modify an over-the-rail liner if that's what you have.
I expect that I'll be happy with this for a long time: dry, locked storage with excellent durability. It may be a higher profile than you're looking for, but I never considered it out of proportion.
Good Luck!

Message: Check out the A.R.E. lids. I got one for a 2002 Dak in January after doing quite a bit of research and actually looking at various brands. Latch mechanism is on the back so it shouldn't freeze up in Cdn. winters. If you've been to V&T world you probably saw them (LSII). They have a vinyly strip around the edge which prevents chipping. The lines on the lid match the hood but in the case of the gen III Daks the little troughs tend to hold water and dust. Cost is about $1200 cdn. but I'm satisfied. There is a $20 coupon on the A.R.E. sight.
Cheers ..... Audie from Ontario

Message: I have really bad experience with Checker product.
I ordered rubber mat for my quad cab from them back in January. I was told it was going to take 8-10 days to cut the rubber. So waited two weeks and the rubber came. Guess what the rubber doesn't fit at all, it seems like they sent me the one for regular cab. I had to help a friend moving in the coming week, so called Chris and asked him to send me the right one as soon as possible. He said he would try to get it to me before the weekend. But two days later, he called me and said the product couldn't be delivered that fast. Then another two weeks later, the second set came in, it was still not the right rubber. The one they sent me was longer and narrower than the quad bed. They just don't have the right specs for my truck. I was so pissed and called Chris for refund. He promised a refund if I emailed him some pictures of the wrong product. I took pictures with a digital camera and emailed him immediately. Now more than a week after I last talked to Chris, I have yet to receive any refund to my credit card.
Chris has been polite to me, but their customer's service is way too unsatisfactory.
