Subject: Wiring and Mounting Fog lights IP: Logged
Message: I have an 04 SXT, bought the pilot light kit for the dakotas. I know I need the 4" hole saw, but where do they mount to....I am hoping this kit has all the right brackets. Also I found what look like 2 unused pigtails on both the left and right side near the fan/radiator, are those for fog lights?? and the engine fuse bloock has metal contacts installed for stock fog relay, am I prewired. Might jsut use pilot wiring since should be equal to the wattage of bulbs don't want to melt stock wire.

Message: The stock wiring will handle those lights just fine.
Instead of a hole saw (expensive), get a roto zip tool bit (cheap) and chuck it into your drill motor. It will easily cut through that plastic bumper fascia.
Have you looked at the lamp mounts on the back of the bumper? If they are like the '01's, you'll have to fab up some brackets. Not a big deal, just use some 2-3" x 1/8" steel. It took me about an hour to make the first one, and then about 5 minutes to make the second.
Finally, get your hands on the factory service manual - not chiltons. In it, you'll find the factor schematics, wiring guides, components specs, etc. That way you can wire it all into the factory circuits, and use the multi-switch instead of adding a toggle switch.
The factory manual is expensive, about a $100. But I use mine all the time. It's an extremly valuable resource; worth every penny.

Message: I have a hole saw on hand, which would make it easy. I was wondering, are wires i described fog light wires, where do I get the plug ends to hook the foglights up to them, are the wires a + and a ground, or am I going to have to ground somewhere else? Also where can I get the switch? If it is to expensive I wight just use pilots wiring, their switch won'trip my dash up either it is just a micro adhesive moutn switch.

Message: I'd recommend you mount the lights yourself, then get a radio shop to install the wiring. Just tell 'em where you want the switch, and let them do it up for you. I know everyone wants to save money, but electical is not a place to play around.
The two plugs you see are probably for fogs, but the factory switch was never installed. The relay and other wiring may also be missing. If you're going to do this yourself, follow Bob's advice and get a factory service manual. Or at least go talk to a reputable garage with electrical diagrams and ask them to print out the fog light wiring for you.
