Subject: power source for inner glow IP: Logged
Message: I'm installing a stringlight inner glow in my '00. Will someone help me out with the best place to draw power from? I assume it would be better to take power from something already in the cab rather than going to the battery and messing with the firewall.

Message: I am also installing lights, but in my bed. I was looking for a good place to get power from back there, rather than going from the battery, under the truck and up through the floor.
Sorry to highjack your thread, but it's quite related

Message: You will only have your bed lights on when its dark right? Could you possibly wire them up to your tail lights, And have a switch between them so you could turn them on whenever?

Message: 12 volt system? I ran my interior neons from the cigarette lighter. I went behind the dash and tapped off that. You could do that, or tap into the fuse block off something such as the accessory port, b/c that has power all the time.

Message: germ i thought those accessory ports in the panel would be a good idea too, but i tried it and it didnt seem to work. i could have chosen a bad place to ground, i dont know. ill have to try it again.

Message: i have installed just about anything and everything into either my truck or my friends rides. For the record...
Tapping into tail lights/turn signals for a signal is just asking for trouble later.
You can tap power off your cig lighter, however it isnt recomended.
The best way to do it is to set up a seperate independant system. Run a new line off your battery (using proper gauge wire) and your ground into the frame under the truck.
i've been though it all, bad and good wiring. I'd hate to see others mess up their rides like i've seen. Got questions? just ask. lata
