Subject: Tires and rim??? IP: Logged
Message: I have finally decided on the 3/5" drop and now I am saving for rims and tires. I am thinking about 18" rims. If I go with the 18s what size tire should I run, to make sure I don't bend a rim, but at the same time not rub?
Is it worth the extra money for the 18s or should I just get the 17s? I don't want a big gab under my fender when I am done. Thanks in advance.

Message: I went with 17's because I didn't want to spend $200 per tire since they're going to wear out in a few years anyhow. With a 3,5 drop I would consider a 215/50/R17 for the front and up to a 255/50/R17 for the rear if you still want the tires to fit inside the wheel wells. For 18's, I would just step down the height to a 45 series. I had problems with 40 series tires and dents on my 17's even though they're steel. When I stepped up to a 45 series, my problem was solved. Of course if you don't plan on using your truck as a daily driver anymore, you can always just wrap the rims with rubber bands and call them good!
