Subject: What is the best method... IP: Logged
Message: For painting interior parts, i.e dash, door panels, other things. Some people have not sanded the parts, some have. Some use fiberglass to smooth it out, some don't. Can a dash be sanded smooth, if it can, why cover it with fiberglass. I am completely lost and very interested in doing some interior work, but I obviously need some help. My truck is by no means going to be a show truck, but I would like some advice on the methods used to get that smoothed look for my enjoyment. Thanks in advance guys.

Message: As far as I know, most parts will need to be sanded. Otherwise, you will most likely have adhesion problems. It also depends on what type of material it is. If by chance you do decide to sand anything, I would go no coarser than 400 grit. Anyone else????

Message: I painted my dash parts, glovebox, ashtray, fuse cover, part under steering wheel, and the peices on the door for the power locks and windows. All I did was sand all the parts with 600 grit sand paper untill the texture was gone then I lightly sanded it with 1500 grit paper. Some people like to primer their parts I did no do that. I went to Sherwill's and just had them mix up me a can of spray paint to match my truck for $9 and painted all of the peices with about 3 coats or so and then about 3 or 4 coats of clear coat. I have not had a problem with chipping or the paint rubbing off yet.

Message: Ok if you want it donw right you will need to sand it like they said to get ride of the texture then you will need to mix whatever color paint you want and add a flex agent into the paint cause plastic is different than metal and bends and flexes this will give a long time of chip free paint as long as you dont abuse the paint itself because it will still scratch like the outside. Now if you fiberglassed it thats a different story but im outta time right now. Hope i helped someway or in other.
