Subject: baggin' or lowering IP: Logged
Message: One, which is cheaper, and two, which is easier? Most likely, whichever is easier to do, is the one I will choose to do. I do want to get my ride lowered though.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? How to do it, how much, etc etc etc.
I have a 1997 Dakota Sport.

Message: it would be cheaper and easier to just lower a dakota then to bag it. a complete bag kit for a dak is around $1300 more or less with connections. to lower all you would do is buy blocks for the back and spindles for the front. do not cut or heat your springs in the front or you will have major suspension problems. if you do it the truck will ride very bad. spindles and blocks will cost about $500 all together for a good set and you can install yourself. its pretty easy. but bags will get a better look and you can show off more.

now, is it easy to install, for a person who pretty much has no mechanic like abilities, as in... I know nothing about cars and how to fix or install anything.

Message: It depends on how low is low enough for you. But yes, lowering your truck will change the ride. It will be a little stiffer depending on what you do.
If you only do a 2/3 drop (around $300-$500) I wouldn't imagine you would have any problems. Just blocks in the back, springs in the front and new shocks all around. If you go more than that though you'll need some mechanical skills. A 3/5 drop ($500-$800 min.) will need new control arms up front, and new shackles and hangers in back plus new shocks. And if you want to bag it look at finding a shop qualified to do it and spending about $3000 min. for parts and labor.
