Subject: EL Wire IP: Logged
Message: I was just looking for something to play around with, and stumbled upon a Redline EL Stringlite 5' (Blue). It plugs into the cigarette lighter spot, then runs to a control box that controls on/off, and whether it beats to music, and how sensitive it is if it does. Now, from there, it runs straight to the wire, with a little giveway with some non-glow electrical wire.
I plug it in, and it doesn't even glow. Does anyone know why? I am really curious on that.

They sell EL wire and accessories.
They might have some technical guides on their website.

Message: well, I just found out that my cigar lighter does not work. You can push it in and it never glows.
And the fuse is in perfect condition. I don't get it.

Message: Yes, but is your truck running? Or at least the accessories on? The cigarette lighter will only work if the accessories are on, try plugging it into the auxilary plug next to it. That runs no matter what. Or just put your truck on.

Message: Is the truck on? The cigarette lighter doesn't work unless the truck is in the on or running positions. The accessory plug next to the cig lighter should work anytime tho.

Message: the truck is running, and there is a cap over where there would be an accessories outlet, unless that's just there to plug it. Haven't tried removing the cap, but it matches the rest of the dash, so I would never guess anything was actually behind it.
And what do you mean 'accessories on', is there some kind of switch somewhere or something?

Message: No no no, I mean theres certain turns on your ignition, if you turn it before the truck actually starts thats the "on" position I believe. Cig light should work in that position. What year truck do u have? My accessory outlet has a cap over it, I think it says 12V.

See, here's the thing:
on the right, there is the Cigar Lighter.
On the left, there is what you think would be the accessories outlet, but it is covered, not by just a cap, but like, a permenanent cover like cap that blends in with the rest of the dash. Not like say, a black cap that says 12v outlet.
And I try the cigar lighter in any key position, from it being Acc, to On, to even when the truck is actually full-blown running.
That stupid lighter just doesn't do anything.
Oh well.

Message: Oh oh, I gotcha. Hmm, I dunno what to tell ya then. I'd either bitch to the dealer, or replace the cigarette lighter. You could always check if the lighter is getting power, if it is, you could hardwire the lights into the power from the behind the lighter.

Message: no bitching to the dealer is possible, it was sold as-is from a local Ford dealer, it was used as a trade-in.
Its no big deal. I don't really want lights anymore, I just want blue-lights in the dash, like where the odometer and tachometer is and all. But that has to be done at a shop... and replacing the lighter is not big deal. I will just have to carry a regular lighter on me if I am actually going to be using lighters.. which I don't really use a cigar lighter anyway... I always need real lighters.
