Subject: Will odometer read high or low? IP: Logged
Message: My 16x8's should be here by next Thursday...shipped from UTAH today with only 10,000 miles. My 15x7's have 21500 and still look new. They will have Goodyear Wrangler RTS same as mine but tire size of 265/70/15 my size now is 235 75 15.
In order to keep my odometer accurate I should take it to the dealer I guess. If not my odometer is going to read (MORE OR LESS) than actual????? Which one will it read??
My truck is still under warranty for until 36,000 miles or another year. I don't want the truck to read 36,000 before I put that amount actually on it. Will the odometer read low or high with the new wheels is my question.
When My truck's odometer does read 36,000 will it actually have more or less than that.

Message: On a purely numeric basis, the 235/75R15 has a diameter of 28.9" and the 265/70R16 (I'm assuming it's a 16", since you referenced 16x8's -- putting a 15" tire on a 16" rim just won't work) has a diameter of 30.6" (the actual, measured diameters may be quite a bit different than the nominal values I've assumed here, but it's all I've got). This gives a ratio of (30.6/28.9) or 1.059:1 ... or about a 5.9% increase. Therefore, for every mile your odometer reads, you're actually going 1.059 miles. So, in actuality, if you have 10,000 miles left on your warranty, you're getting 590 'free' miles of warranty (or, you're commiting fraud, depending on how you look at it). Note -- I didn't check any of my math, and I had a few beers at lunch, so you might want to double check everything. I've never personally done it on my DAK, but I'm pretty sure the dealer can reprogram your truck to make up for this 5.9% difference. Hope this helps.

Message: I am interested in purchasing your old tires if they have a good amount of tread left. Please email me at barrytinat@yahoo.com. Thanks, Barry
