hello again,
i plan on doing some painting this summer and i wondered what would be a good paint gun to get in a 100-150. price range?
i have been looking at devilbiss on ebay are there guns pretty good, or are there certain ones that arn't as good as they should be?
how is the devilbiss finishline 2 and 3 series guns?

It depends on what your painting if its doing small parts or individual parts, I suggest a touch up gun. As far as brand you can go with Binks, Devilbiss, or whatever as long its HVLP (High Volume, Low Pressure). Personally I use an AM-Pro Touch-up gun from advance auto parts, My local PPG store didn't have anything available at the time, and it has been a great little gun just be sure to keep it clean. For primer I have an older Devilbiss siphon type, for big jobs I have my trusty Binks HVLP, I have one other its a J&S i think but not sure. Hope this helps. In all brand doesn't matter just check the overall quality of the part and make sure the tip size coincides with the paint you plan to use, keep it clean and it will treat you well.

yeah that helps!
i think i'am giong to get a devilbiss finishline 3.
i will prolly be using it for painting intire vehicales, halfs of vehicals, or flame jobs and stuff like that.
and i will prolly get the 1.3, 1.5, and 1.8 tips.
what size compressor should i be looking at? prolly one that can produce around 12cfms @ 40 psi, or could i get away with somthing smaller?

You could get away with a pancake type, but it will run often. I have a small one I use when I have a job that I can go to like a friends house and stuff like that. And use a larger one in my shop.

i have some questions on pearls.
i went and looked at a house of kolor distributers website and they had like 4-5 diffrent kind of pearls, whats the diff?
and do you put the pearls in the base coat or do you put the pearls in the top coat?
i also saw that you can get pearls in diffrent colors thats pretty sweet.
i was thinking a lime green paint with gold pearls might like good.

I wanted to repaint the interior of my truck with a higher quality paint rather than those kylon spray paints. What is the cheapest and best setup to paint these small interior parts with say car paint???

Pearls come in different sizes and different tints, you can even tint them yourself. And the pearl is shot after the base and before the clear. Carquest has vinyl paint that is premixed just put it in the gun and shoot.

so after you paint the base coat do you just put one coat of the pearls on? and i asume that the pearls from house of kolor have to be mixed into the paint, so do you mix them into some clear coat put the one layer down and then just finish the car/truck with the 4-6 layers of clear coat/top coat?

Just a little note about DeVilbiss. The big 3 use only DeVilbiss paint shop equipment and paint guns when painting their show cars, special edition cars and auto show cars. All of them have showroom finishes that arent available to the public without a huge price tag. Ask any true professional automotive painter and he will definately recommend the DeVilbiss.

A good painter can use any gun on the rack, as long as it is the correct type for the job. The pearl is suspended in its own blend. Some offer just the pearl by itself that you add to paint. But I usually use the tinted pearl that you lay over the base. Remember BASE-->Pearl-->Clear.
In some cases the the base is mixed with the pearl, but doesn't give the same effect as tri-coat does. Go to your local paint shop and ask him/ her to show you the difference between the two.

i looked on ebay and some of the books on there looked pretty good, are any of you guys familier with them. most of the ones where written by Jon Kosmoski.

I don't remember the title, but there are a couple of great automotive painting books on Amazon.com. Cheap too. Check that out and read the customer reviews.
