Subject: Bed caps/Tonneau covers IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone installed black plastic bed caps on their dakota and if so, how did they fit, were they a pain to install, will they work ok with a tonneau cover. I like the looks of the bushwacker diamond plate and the wade caps. Are there any others i should consider? I did notice that the bushwacker doesnt offer a front bed cap. Will that make a difference if i put on a tonneau?

Message: Got EGR rail caps, aftermarket under the rail tonneau. Works fine with my tonneau cover and they do the job... I was sliding stuff over the sides and over the edge of the tailgate when I helped someone move last week and if I hadnt had my bed and rails protected my bed would look like crap just from that weekend.
The rail caps stuck on with 3m double sided tape. I used the alcohol swabs they had to clean off the rails, fitted them on there, removed the paper off the 3m tape, then walked up and down each rail a couple times and I was pretty much good to go. They've come a little loose at the very last couple inches at the edge near the tailgate, but no big deal. Probably could have been avoided with extra tape.
I have no problems with the soft cover I installed over all this. IMHO I like the black rail caps and tailgate protector. They go well with the other black accessories on my truck: bug deflector, ventvisors, door edge guards, and mudflaps. Makes for a nice contrast. PRobably if I had an SLT with chrome I'd have gone with the diamond plated rail caps and tailgate protector instead.
One thing worth considering if you have a black truck... black diamond plated accessories. I dont know if they're available on the Dak, but I saw a black Ram 2500 in my apartment complex with black diamond plated bed accessories and it looked awesome.
