If you buy a grill from one of the reputable manufacturers, they will supply a kit to add a cable of some sort to pull the latch from under the grill frame.

If you are making your own, you need to do a search as there have been few posts with instructions or web sites that show/tell you how to do it. I don't have the links, or the instructions any more otherwise I'd post 'em for you.

lurkin is right, i have the ss grille and it came with a cable and handle that attaches to the hood latch and hangs down so when you pop the hood you can grab the handle and pull down(which pulls the hood latch down like normal) and bingo open hood !

a small piece of cable, a key ring, and some cable clamps will work great!

Yeah... I made a homemade mesh grill insert, got it all done and looking good ....closed the hood....my son came out and said Dad let me see how you did that!! Then is when it hit me, I had no way to open the hood, so I got a tiny screwdriver and used it. Since then a homemade cable with key ring has been added at my sons request.
