Subject: 17" wheels on my QC 4X4 IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7. It currently has the 16x8 Dakota/Durango wheels with 265/70 R16 tires. I am considering some 17 inch wheels. Possibly some polished RTs or something but I want to keep the same spacing in my wheel wells. With 17s what size tire would keep the same spacing that I have with my 16s?

Message: try 275-60-17 its what most people run but there is a Nitto tire in 275-65-17 that will really fill out your wheel well especially if you have fender flares

Message: Well, I know this much. I went to So.Cal Super Trucks the other day and asked them about it. They said that even if I got the Rancho 3" lift, I would still only be able to put the same size wheels and tires on my truck. Unless of course you want to do some cutting. When I turn my wheels in, there is only about 1.5" between the tire and the front bumper. Technically I guess you could go with 17's but you would have to get a smaller profile tire. If you do that, you're offroad ride is going to suffer. I decided to order some Boyd wheels. I ordered 16x8 with 5.5 backspacing. Same as stock.

Message: I ran on a 3inch lifted 2wd 265-70-17 mt same backspacing as rt rims on 17x9inch rims, you can do it easily with any of the above mentioned tires.
I have pics and still have the tires in myshed.

Message: I`ve got 18X8.5s with 325/60-18 Nittos and a 3in. bodylift on my 02 QC 4X4. I could have went with the 31 in Nitto but I wanted mine lifted anyway.
17s will fit with the right tire combo for sure.

Message: hey Scott,
How do you like the body lift compared to a suspension lift? What brand did you get and how much did it run you?

Message: At the time I lifted mine , the suspension lift wasn`t yet available , so I went with the Performance Accessories body lift. For the money , and simplicity of it compared to a suspension lift , I think it was well worth it. I don`t do any serious off-roading , I just wanted a bigger tire under my Dakota.
Most people say you can see too much of the frame with a body lift , but I don`t think it`s that bad .I modified my step bars to tuck up close to the body , and they really help hide any frame from showing.
The lift and gap guards were a little over $230
