im sure you could fit them on there but its suicide, i recommend 265/35 tire

I'm thinking about getting 20" Maxims made by American Racing. The tire size on them is 275/45/20, Would anything special have to be done to fit the 22" Maxims fit my Dakota, and would I be able to put my factory wheels back on in the winter time?

Just installed a set of Amer-Racing Maxims on my R/T. Put on Yoko 275/35x20's so I can install a 2/3 drop kit without rubbing the tires. Also the overall height of the rims & tires is 27.6in. as compared to the 28" standard height of the 17" rim with 255/55x17's. That way I won't screw up my speedo!
You didn't mention what model or year Dakota you own-but I hope this helps. No problems for the winters!

If you put 22" Maxims on your Dak. you are just asking for trouble because if you don't wanna bugger your speedometer your gonna have to go with a 30 section tire and that is suicide on a truck for dinged rims.
Stick to 20's

i went 22X9.5 w/ a 35series
if i cut the wheel all the way i got bout 1 1/2 inch b4 they rub, but when i put a drop on it i will half to cut..

i put 265/35/22 on a 9.5 wide rim and lowered it 2/4. the only cutting i had to do was a little bit off the corner of the bumper on the inside of the wheel well. the tire would barely rub when the wheels were fully turned. you could go with a 30 series to avoid rubbing completely but like they said your rims are that more likely to get bent
