Subject: White Gauge question IP: Logged
Message: I recently got a set of white gauges from e-bay and they did not come with directions on how to install them. If any one can help it would be great. If there is anyway to e-mail me the info that would be great. Thanks in advance

Message: 1)pull the front piece of the dash off.
2)unscrew the gauge cluster from the dash
3)pull gauge cluster out from car
4)remove needles and put new gauges in place
5)reinstall needles (firm but not to firm, you will have to get the right pressure for them to work right)
6)put gauges back in dash leaving the plastic cover off, so you can drive around a few days to see if your gauges are working right.
if they are glow gauges let me know and i can tell you how to wire them. I gave you just a basic overview just hitting the main details. If you still cant figure it out, i will try to give you better directions.

Message: Regarding direction #3, how do you unhook the shift position cable to remove the cluster?

Message: I would add the following to info's post:
0.5 Take a picture, or draw a picture, of the needle positions when it's warmed up. Use this pic in step six to fix the needle positions as necessary.

Message: regarding step number 3. there are 2 screws behind the gauge cluster that hold the shift posistion thing into the cluster. To get to it, pull out the cluster as far as it will go, without breaking anything, and then turn it so you can see the screws. After, that all you have to do is unscrew them, and you will have it out.

Message: The only thing that I don't know is which clips on the gauges go to which gauges. Do they all have the same clips or are they different. Detailed instructions would be very helpful thanks again.

Message: Here's another idea for step 5. Try measuring the clearance between the bottom of the pointer cap and the original gauge face. When you re-install the pointers, make a shim stop of about the same thickness (use something that won't scratch the surface). This is important because if the pointer touches the gauge face it might get stuck. Sometimes at thermal extremes the gauge face can shift or buckle, so maintaining clearance is important.

Message: Also when you take a picture or draw a picture of your needles. make sure the engine is cold so that they will be exact.
