Subject: Painting A/C vents
IP: Logged

Message:
To those of you who have painted your A/C vents;

I'm worried that after painting it my A/C vent(s), that the plastic peice that slides side to side to direct the air whatever direction you want it to go will scrape the paint off of the sides.. or I won't be able to paint behind the plastic peice, so after it's painted and you slide it, it'll be black behind it. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance! E-mail: litty01@cox.net

Use a die instead of paint.

A dye? Where could I find a red dye that I could use on plastics? How well would it match up to the existing interior paint?

ZAZ, i dont know if u know or not, but when i painted mine, i did the outside of the vents one color, and the inside (the fins) another color; u can seperate em, i think it makes it easier to get everything.
But, i know what you're saying. for some reason, 2 of my vents work fine, but the other 2 did what you're saying: the paint peeled off when i slid it to the side. I THINK what happened is that I just didn't let it sit long enough before sliding it. i painted 1 side of the fins, let it dry (each coat) then slid it and did the other. I think i just hurried the 2 i messed up. But the other 2 are fine to this day, i can slide em back and forth no problem.
So it should be ok if u just be patient and let each coat dry thoroughly. (Also, I used Mirage paint, which has 3 layers, so it might have been a little thicker than yours would be). hope this helps. peace
