Message: I'm sure this may sound like a really dumb question, but I just have to ask..... I have manual door locks on my Dakota, could I still have an alarm installed?

Message: i Just had the viper 670, installed on my truck last week at circuit city, they did a great job, they have installed some of my friends alarms and also a nice install... but ne ways i had manual locks too, but i had them install door actuators to give me keyless entry that works with the alarm
so when i arm the truck the doors lock, and when i disarm the doors unlock, also when i start the truck if all the doors are shut they lock as well
i don;t have a switch inside to controll them, but with keyless entry i really don't need it cause everytime i leave the truck i arm it so all the doors lock ne way
it cost me another 180 for both doors 90 per door, inculding the instal, i also had them install a shock sensor in my tailgate so if you open the gate it sounds the alarm, hope that helps

And just like Curt said above, you can have actuators placed in the doors to lock/unlock. I have the Viper 550 (that I got from Circuit City) w/ remote start and they put actuators in the doors for another $50 each. Also, I had some custom switches installed inside (using momentary buttons from Radio Shack) on the center floor console (down where my 4x4 shifter is) so know I have working power door locks.
The total job came out to around $400 installed.

Message: the factory alarm is controlled by a subsystem that is installed to the pcm so yes it could. How to tell if you have a factory alarm? when you press the lock button on the key fob, OR lock the doors using the electric door lock switch when the door is open then closing the door, (not just pushing the knob next to the window down) you will see a red light flashinf alarm flash 15 times on the dash. When it quits flashing the alarm is set.
Curt is talking about an aftermarket system as DarkFury. I am talking the factory built in system. On mine simply locking the doors while exiting sets it as well as locking the door with the FACTORY key fob. I don't need a tailgate lock, nor do I see the need for one.

Message: I wonder if they make custom switches for power windows as well, I'd like to have an alarm, keyless entry (manual door locks), remote start, and switches for power windows (manual windows).
