here a link to pics of the third brake light I made
I need opinions
I'll be putting in 15 red LEDs for brake lights
and no cargo lights(don't use it anyway).

I was going to paint it black to match the truck
for a kind of shaved look but it turned out so nice I don't know if I should, there nothing else billet on the truck so it wouldn't match .

what do you guys think

yeah I milled it (2 axis CNC) took about a hour and a half to figure out the contour on computer it's almost exactly the same as the origional light but much thinner I'm painting it black so you don't see it until the LED's come on ---shaved look minus the welding and body work.

I got the idea from when I took off my V6 emblems and found holes to fill so I put LED's in the holes and have them hooked up to my alarm LED

I liked them so much I had to find somewhere else to put them.

I wasn't sure if they would be bright enough but they may be brighter than the regular brake lights
Iput on another webcam pic on the site with them hooked up.

Hey Terry, i think thats great looking. Ive been trying to figure out an idea to change my third brake lite and thats the best one ive seen. Would it be easy to paint that and have it match the colour of your truck?? How far out does sit, or is it flush the the actual metal on the truck?? Are you interested in making anymore and then maybe selling them?? I know you might not be because of how original it is, but i think you did a great job.

Thanks Grant,my truck is black so it's not that hard to match I just used gloss black rustoleum and that matches pretty good(same as I used on the flat black portion of the bumper). I wet sanded the primer and it turns out better than the factory dodge orange peel paint.

It sits .100" above flush with the body, you can't really make it completely flush because the mounting suface isn't recessed.
you would have to weld in a piece, do body work, and repaint for that, more money than I wanted to spend.
This only costed $15 for LED's and $1 for resisters.

I would love to make more to sell, but with the equiptment I have it takes about 9 hours for the mill work and 2 hours of soldering LED's .I would have to charge over $100 to make it worth my while.

If your interested and some what handy you could make one out of plexiglass that was my other option.
The LED's don't need much to mount to .
cut and drill carefully then paint the back side and it should last longer than a bug shield---same material but less exposure to elements.

LED's can't be wired like light bulbs .I wired 3sets of 5LED's in series parrallel with a 100 ohm resistor before each series.
here a link to info on them
http://www.theledlight.com/technical.html

heres the LED's I used
part # E53sec-h $ .76each from http://www.eled.com
