Subject: Exhaust Question???
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi :) My name is Emily! I came across this website a few months ago, I'm really enjoying it! I drive a 2000 Dakota reg cab. I'm looking into getting an exhaust system put on my truck, but I am clueless as to how I should choose. I don't want something loud and annoying like those little cars riding around town, I'd like something really deep sounding. I've heard of Gibson, Borla and Flowmaster, would any of those give me the results I'm looking for? Thank you for your help and any suggestions you can give me!

Id go down to a quality muffler shop and get a flowmaster 3 chamber muffler put on with either single or dual exit going all the way out the rear. Not loud at all but with a really nice deep rumble. Also do you have a v8 or v6? Sound dramaticly changes depending on motor.

I have a V6 with a flowmaster; it sounds AWESOME! at idle, people have asked me if it's a V6 or V8, cuz it has that great LOW rumble. V8s sounds alot more badass of course, but V6s sound pretty damn good still.

I have a Gibson system on my 00 4.7 Quad cab and have not been thrilled with the fit or removing the spare tire. The sound is awesome, but a bit louder than a Flowmaster I heard on a 5.2. I would not get another Gibson though.

Hey I have a 2000 QC V6. I just changed the 3" Dynomax catback system out for a 2.5" borla muffler attached to the 3" tailpipe from the previous Dynomax system. It sounds awesome and the performance is even better. Better low end torque and great top end power

Hey Y2K Quad,

You got the Gibson and had to remove the spare? I was looking at the Gibson 'cuz I like the dual side sport exit and didn't think removal was neccessary. What gives?

Hey AlmondQC. My Dak is four wheel drive and has 31 10.50x15 factory Goodyears on it and the dual rear outlet system required the removal of the spare. With a little better engineering, and a little tighter fit to the frame on the drivers side, im sure it would have fit and been a lot nicer looking system. As of now the left pipe looks a little half assed if you get my drift.

I have the Gibson dual sport side exit and did not have to remove the spare. It sounds great, low rumble, fairly quiet at idle, but it opens up pretty well when you get on it. I would get another Gibson in a heartbeat.

I have a Flomaster on my 96 Dakota. It has the low rumble at Idle and sounds great when you get on it!!!! I have had that on my truck for about 2 years and never had the slightest disappointment in the sound. I defiantly recommend it and will have another one on my next Dakota...years down the line.

Y2K Quad and Marks DQC,

It was the dual side sport I was looking at getting, I figuered the normal dual would have to ditch the spare. Glad to know I can still get what sounds like the best PERFORMING exhaust out there. Also sounds economical and I won't wake the neighbors when I leave for work at 4 am unless I romp on it. I was wondering if either you guys have any kind of intake? I just put on the Intense Performance kit with a 9" big mouth S&B filter. NO change in sound at idle but 3000-5000 rpm she starts to growl. I'm wondering if the exhaust will change that sounds more than Daks w/o a cold air kit. The factory sound does have a good idle note but it COULD be a little more promounced.

I have a 4.7 w/ flowmaster 3 chamber and it exits infront of the rear tire on the passanger side. Soon to be cut off to lay frame when rear gets bagged but right now i love the sound. Im 18 so i love lound things of coarse. The other week my mom took my truck to work and i was asleep when she started it outside in the driveway it woke me up, it takes alot to wake me up. Most people will stare when i start it up and i have scared a few peple standing next to it. But before i lowered it i had it dual all the way out the back, sounded great also, alot quieter, but a really clean nice sound. Either way i liked it but out the side is something you dont see every day so thats why i had them do it. Like i said, just go to a muffler shop and have them do it for you. Later guys
