Message: i have seen 4 or 5 dropped QC's. including a fully shaved, 'bagged, and body dropped one.
The QC would use the same drop kit as any other dak. I went with western chassis for a 4/6 drop. what is your stock tire size? 255/65/16?
what do you use the truck for? do you tow, haul (besides ass =) or just want better handling, with a more aggressive stance?

Message: Yes my stock tire size is 255/65/16. I don't haul or tow anything. I am going to cover the back with a tonneu (sp?). I want handling plus looks. I do however go over many speed 'humps' around my workplace so I don't think I want a 4/6. Maybe a 3/5? I saw the Western chassis 2 1/2front 4back. Are you pleased with yours. What shocks did you go with? thanks, Rick

Message: i am VERRY pleased with my kit. I have had a lot of people tell me how good my truck rides even with a 35 series tire on it. i went with the doshtech shocks from western chassis along with the kit.
if you go with a 3/5 drop you will probly not scrape over anything, expecially if you go with a 18" rim.

Message: I dropped mine with the Hotchkis kit. Looks great, handles great. Worth every penny.
If you go to an 18" wheel, a 255/55R18 is the same overall dimensions as your stock 255/65R16. I've had some 18" wheels stiing in my garage until I could scrape up the $$$ for tires. I just got some Pirelli P-Zero's in that size ($154 at tirerack.com). I hope to get them installed this week.
If you go to a lower profile, you'll probably want more drop to fill the wheelwell better.

Message: MY '01 QC HAS THE 3/5 DJM SUSPENSION KIT WHICH IS THE BEST KIT FOR DAILY USE. USES FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM AND NEW REAR HANGERS. YOU WILL NEED TO PULL THE BED OFF TO INSTALL REAR HANGERS AND THE FACTORY RIVETS ARE NOT REAL WILLING TO COME OUT. THE ONLY REAL CHANGE I MADE TO THE KIT WAS TO ADD TALLER (3") BUMP STOPS AS THE KIT ONLY COMES WITH 1.5" AND DO TO THE EXTREME WIDE STANCE OF A DAKOTA YOU'LL MUNCH THE FRONT FENDERS ESPECIALLY WITH A TALLER WHEEL/TIRE COMBO. STYLINCONCEPTS.COM IS THE BEST DEAL ON THIS KIT AND THEY SHOULD HAVE IT IN STOCK. A 4/6 DROP IS NOT FEASIBLE IF YOU WANT TO TOW OR DRIVE OVER SPEED BUMPS AND YOU WILL NEED TO C NOTCH THE FRAME FOR AXLE CLEARANCE. THE HOTCHKIS KIT IS EASIER TO INSTALL BUT ONLY A 2/3 DROP AND IT COST MORE. I RAN 17X8.5 AND 17X9.5 WELDS WITH NITTO 255/50VR17 FRONT AND 275/50VR17 REAR TO FILL IN THE WELLS WHILE NOT DRAINING THE WALLET. (TIRES.COM)

Message: Install the 2/3 kit from DJM. The kit will include front coils springs or lowered control arms and rear blocks. Go with the lowered control arms if you want the factory ride. Do not lower the truck any more than this. You will have major problems with the rear diff bottoming out on the frame. No bumpstop will prevent this harsh impact from happening. Some go as far as cnotching the frame to prevent this from happening but it doesnt work. There is another problem that arrives. The rear driveshaft at the front yoke gets real close to the tailshaft end of the trans. This will cause premature rear seal failure and will not be covered by the dealership if the suspension is modified. One last item. When lowering the truck more than 3 inches, you will not be able to tow or carry passengers/cargo what so ever. Anyone telling you different is trying to sell you something.

Message: manny do you know what you are talking about? i have a 4/6 drop on mine with the c-notch, and have never hit the axle on the frame. how do you know this happens? do you have this drop on yours? as for the drive shaft, well i have had this drop on mine for 2 years now and have had no problem what so ever. i know at least 5 people with air baggs on their daks and even they dont have these problems, two are even body dropped lance martz (one of the editors of truckn mag) is one of them
As for carring cargo, why cant I carry anything? i still have the same springs in the rear, just moved up 6". it will not hit the frame becaused its notched. sure i wouldent tow a 25' boat, but jet ski's would be fine as would a referigerator or something like that.

Message: I dont deal with people who body drop vehicles so don't know what you are mentioning this-nothing to do with suspensions. As for the comment, I do know what I am doing and have done it for 6 years solid. Just giving advise to someone who can make their own judgement. I lower about 5-15 vehicles a week in a 67,000 foot building with 8 installers. These trucks are modified for dealers and need to be driveable for all ages and need to be trouble free. I should have mentioned that the driveshaft issue is for 1999 and newer RT's and vehicles with the 5.9 motor in them. Dont get offensive, if you think your drop is the best than it is-who knows better than you. I have a Quad Door with a 5.9 and I have a Djm 2/3 kit. I tow a race mustang and my family with this kit. I have driven in dakota's with air bag suspensions and with 3/5 and 4/6 kits. I would never drive either long distances nor have any kids in them. I let the customer make his own decision after I have given him the pros and cons.

Message: manny, just because you are an installer dosent mean you are any good. my friend had a 2000 fullsize chevy. he took it to a "perfecional" to have a 4/6 drop installed, and they didnt reinforce the notch and the frame broke in half! only the leafsprings held it to together.
first you say "the rear driveshaft gets real close to the tailshaft end of the trans. this causes premature seal falure". Then you come back and say this only happens on the 5.9's. NONE OF THAT WAS IMPORTANT to rick because he has the 4.7. if you would have read the origional thread you would have known that.
when you install ANY drop kit do you use the stock bumpstops? if you do that would explane the axle contact. like i have said before, mine never makes contact. even when loaded down.

Message: I don't have a QC but a CC. I have the DJM 5/3 kit installed, it has been 3 years running stock shocks and stock front bumpstop. I am supremely happy with it. As well I am rolling on the stock 15" wheels with low profile 225/50/15 tires. I have friends with lowered R/T's that are lowered 3/4 kits and have taken them for rides in my truck and they have stated that mine handles better than theirs with minimal body roll(hardly noticeable) If you care to take a look at some pics check my site. http://www.geocities.com/dropt_98_dakota on page 2 or 3 there is a pic of me parked side by side one of these r/t's so there you can see kind of what the difference is.

Message: DO NOT use lower blocks in the rear. it thows off the pinion angle of the driveshaft and it will lead to u joint failure. another headache with lowering blocks is it changes the way the rear end twists during take offs and the added leverage created leads to traction and brakeage problems. and my 5" rear drop still allows towing and hauling 5 passengers with out bottoming (with no c notch). only real trouble i had was clearing the dual exhaust around the diff but it can work.

Message: sorry mark i have to disagree. i have a 4" angled lowering block in the rear of mine and have had no problems with the u-joint in 2 1/2 years.
as for axle hop, well i have a 98 5.2 and 5 speed and have launched at 2500-3000rpm with NO wheel hop at all. i was skeptical with going with a 4" block at first, but after it was installed im now happy with it. heck, i have a 3" hanger in my garage that i want to put in so i will only have to go with a 1" block but for now "if it aint broke dont fix it"
as for the c-notch, it is only required for a 6" drop or more.
