Message:
Hey... I just got my Thunderfrom from hifisoundconnections.com for $285 (loaded) shipped. That was a pretty good deal. I was just wondering, what do you people who have them think about the MTX 6000 subs that are in them. I haven't gotten mine in yet but im going to be pushing them with a MTX 4202 amp. I think that should hit fairly hard. Im not going for competition but just a good hard hit. Let me know some of your opinions. Thanks

Kyle

My amp isn't mounted, it is just sitting on the floor behind my passenger seat...there is NO room to mount anything. If you can...get the amped version of the thunderform...it will save some room and hassle.

I'm running two Profile amps - one under each seat.

They both measure around 14"x10"x3", and they DO fit, but there wasn't much room for air circulation, and the sub-amp (pass. side) was tight enough to rub a seat spring, so.....

I lifted the seats. I used flat washers to raise the rear vertical bolts 1/2", but in the front, the bolt holes face forward, so I "fab'd" a steel plate (1/4" x 15" x 2") with one set of holes that bolt to the floor, and a second set 1" higher that connect to the seat rails.

As soon as I get tired of lookin at the plates (you can kinda see 'em with the seats all the way back), I'll make some kind of carpeted cover.

It works good.... now the amps fit fine, the extra height allows me to see my speedo with the steering wheel tilted all the way down, and the 1/2" front-1" back rake feels like my butt's more firmly planted in the seat.

amplifier mounting options

I have three amps mounted in my truck. They are all about 12x12in in size all of which cannot be seen or take up any usable space (such as under the seats), how? While installing my rear speakers (extended cab)I notice there is a ton of room between the outer body metal and the inside metal. All I did was cut a hole/slot big enough to fit the amp into that space and mount it! I would suggest using larger fuses than required if the fuse holders are part of the amp; and mount a separate fuse block easily accessable elsewere in the vehicle.

Had my thunderform in for over a year now, and still loving it.
Only had 2 bad rattles so far, and found them both. First was the plastic trim above the carpet on the back wall of the cab (so, right above the thunderform, below the window). Second is the plastic peice you would pull up on if you wanted to unlock the passenger door.

Goodluck!

I was gonna get one myself but i decided to build my own. Its awsome I made it for 2 12" subs, 2 six and a half in. componet sets and a amp rack for 2 amps and still have a seat , seatbelts and cupholders and legroom all custom. It looks really great. but they come with 6000's for a reason, its made for those subs with perfect airspace if you put a bigger sub it wouldnt sound nearly as good
so keep bumpin

Looking at all the posts concerning thunderforms and am pretty excited. I managed to get an unloaded Thunderform for $135, and can get a set of Polk Ex's from Crutchfield.com (or something comparable) for about $100 (I have about $20 in credit w/them), and I have the amp, so this means that I will get what I want for right around $240. Not too shabby. :-)

I've had my thunderform for aver a year and 1/2 now, and my only rattles came from the mettal bars that connect the plastic push down locks to the actual door locks. I put some rubber hose around these rods and it has seemed to fix the problem (the doors just lock a little harder from the inside, but i'll take that over a rattle anyday!!!) I'm running 2 kicker amps the bigger of the two being the 1302 kicker amp, which has managed to blow my subs twice so far. I actually just replaced them again today...lol. Good luck with the rattles guys!!!

A note to all those with 2002 Dak CC's. I just bought a Thunderform with 2 Thunder 6000's.....only to find out that it doesn't fit. Specifically, one of the notches in the back of it that are supposed to make room for the brackets on the fold-up seats (when they fold down) does not line up, and that means either cutting off that bracket on the seat (NOT) or cutting out a notch from the Thunderform itself...turning it from a sealed enclosure into a 'ported' enclosure. It would then have to be sealed up. According to MTX it has to do with the fact that the Dak's are made in 2 different places, and a lot of the ones from Michigan have this problem. (Guess where mine's from.) They say they're going to fix it next year.

I bought the Thunderforms about two months ago and was pushing them with a Memphis amp, bridged 250 watts. The amp fried itself because the dorks at the stereo shop wired it up WRONG!! So, I ended up going with a Memphis 500x1 amp and replaced the speakers with Xtant A series, they sound so good in the MTX box!!! I recommend if you want some cleaner bass try the Xtants!!

What I mean by loaded is yes to speakers, amped would be nice however that is an option at this time. Is there anyone who would be able to answer my question. Would the thunderform that is currently available be able to fit in a 96' Club Cab?

well guys, just thought i'd check back. had my 98 Ram 1500 for 2 months and I still love it. I'm looking for a sub (or subs) that I can put in, I've noticed the thunderform for the ram, as well as a Q-Logic QForm that goes either behind the center console or a sub that goes IN the center seat (I have bench seats). All are above the pricing I am loking for. Anyone have any other ideas? I am looking to spend around $150 or so, for the enclosure and the subs. I have an amp to use. Thanks for your help!

The absolute cheapest place to buy MTX Thunderforms is www.hifisoundconnection.com. Contact Lisa at sales@hifisoundconnection.com if you need a quote for a product other than the regular thunderform - mention my Dakota website to get some amazing deals. I have her special pricing posted on the group buys page here, or on my aftermarket accessories page (audio section) on my website.

For the guy with the Ram - unfortunately there isn't any company out there who will sell a pair of subs with a customized enclosure for $150. You could get a generic box with some cheap subs from Best Buy for about that much, but the custom-fit parts like the Thunderform will run about $250 shipped with a pair of subs.

For The JL Audio guy - you should really skip this product unless you absolutely must retain the factory tool tray. The JL Audio drop-in only holds one 8" subwoofer, gets rid of all of your storage space, costs about as much as the Thunderform, and raises the front of your back seat by about an inch, giving it an odd angle. The Thunderform gives you TWO 10" subs, space for your jack and lug wrench set, and is close enough to the stock seat height that your seats don't sit at odd angles. Definitely worth the price. If you're really stuck on the JL Audio product I think I have a link on my website on the aftermarket accessories page.
