Message: try someplace that does custom work on cars or car parts such as chrome dipping stuff or a painter that can spray a chromed paint...if they make such a thing...

Message: I would suggest contacting a "plater" that specializes in chroming plastic auto parts.
This is done when restoring antique and classic cars. The process involves coating the plastic with a coat of copper and then it will take nickle and chrome. Perhaps fiberglass can be done in the same fashion, although I have never heard of it being done. A good on-line source for a plater would be www.hemmings.com .
I am in the process of installing a Stull shell with billet grille and my shell will get painted the body color.

Message: yah well I want to keep the original chrome look like the peice that was on originally. It actually just looks like fiberglass with a paint like coating that looks like chrome polish. I'll check with a body shop see what they say.

Message: it's not going to come out very good... plating plastic is very complex and that spray on stuff sucks... have it painted the body color and it will look much better.

Message: Well if the manufacturer decided to make my Dakota SLT with a chrome shell and I liked it enough to buy it that way.. and I decided to replace that part with a different style grille shell with the same coating I don't see why it will come out bad, blownrt. Thanks dj

Message: Hey Illicit,
I've not had AVA do any work YET!!!! I'm waiting for the wifeypoo not to notice the new chrome....I'm hoping that they will chrome a few things.....whatever you do, do not try vaccuum plating, ok for interior but sucks for exterior.
Let me know how it goes.....dj
