Message: It matters what you're shooting for - looks or performance. The Suncoast Creations hood is a nice looking hood and is functional. I have seen those bought as low as $600 in a group buy.
The Reflexion Cowl Hood is only $425 shipped from John Mercedes, but its not all too functional. The Cervini's hoods are a little functional and are only $439 along with the AAR Cuda Hood.

Although you might be able to save a few bucks by picking a cheaper model, the overall cost of installing a new hood is a significant purchase. On top of the purchase price you have to consider tax (if applicable), shipping (if applicable), body shop prep/mount/paint/etc. Even a $400 hood can cost you $800 or more once you're all done.
My advice to everyone: pick the hood that you like the way it looks the best and find a way to buy it, even if it takes a bit longer to scrape up the difference, you'll be happier in the long run.
