Subject: A.R.E. Tonneau Covers = Piece of $hit? IP: Logged
Message: When I bought my truck, it came with this tonneau cover. I dont know if its only my bad luck but this tonneau cover is a peice of $hit. I'm not sure if it is the quality of the cover or might be due to improper installation.
But before I bought the truck, I opened up the tonneau cover and noticed that the top of the tailgate (where it rests on it) has chipped and scratched away the paint! Not only that, but when I move the handle upward to unlatch the cover so it can be opened, it peels more and more paint off of the handle! I would've taken this thing off along time ago but whoever installed this drilled holes into the bed of the truck!
Has anyone else had any problems like this with their tonneau cover? Or is it just my crappy luck? Maybe I should call the previous owner of this truck and ask him for the warranty papers....if he still has them.
Here's a picture of the back of the cover by the handle
Thanks,
-Matt

Message: I have used are lids for 4 differant trucks now and have never had the first problem with any of them. They are not supposed to have drilled holes in the truck for installation, they have very nice aluminum clamps. Also I have the frame with the cusion strip on the truck underneath the lid frame wich i'm sure if the lid's installed right protects the truck. I would believe the problem's from the installation not from the lid.
